Interior Exterior
Q:
Tell us more about the new evaporator. Also anyone try higher output radiator fans?
A:
Turned the AC on twice in the Exige, cold air both times although I do not live in an area that gets extremely warm.
A:
Mine works great... top off, windows down, 70 mph.
Oh... do you mean the big metal paperweight attached to the engine? ... pulled mine out months ago.
A:
I had my A/C recharged months ago. It was blowing hot air from the time I took delivery of the car.
Well it worked for a little while. Today I tried the A/C again and it's blowing hot air again. I'm afraid the system must have a leak. ARGH! I hope it's not within the pipes that run through the passenger side sill. I've seen an Elise taken apart in an attempt to fix a leak in that area and it's not a pretty thing to witness!
A:
My A/C has never worked well; the car was built almost two years ago and I finally took in to the dealer to have this looked into (you can tell it hadn't been a priority for me!). They tell me the refrigerant pressure was very low, that there's a leak "somewhere". They'll be digging into it next week to find that and assure me it can be fixed in a matter of days, not months. I'll report back on what the problem turns out to be.

I talked with a lotus tech and he said what is really need is a heater matrix bypass valve that is activated when the A/C button is pushed on. I think that some of the ford or GM valves would work, but don't know how to wire that into the switch to make a clean install. Any additional thoughts on this.
btw, I bypassed my heater and the AC works extremely well in 100 degree heat. I'm just concerned about those super hot engine days that need the heat sink, but realize too that the pump will circulate through the pipes and just skip the heater core. Also if the engine gets too hot the radiator fans come on.

Extremely well? I'll have to try that.
A:
I had my prob replaced under warranty. I have a July built 2005, The new prob was placed in same place in the condenser(in the middle and pushed in).no change in the way th A/C works. It cycles on and off, cool air for a few minutes and then not so cool. That is on any fan speed recycle or no. Interestingly it warks better with the car sitting still in dealer service drive.
My dealer is South Bay.

If you could provide me part #s/pics of the ford/GM valves, I could easily figure this out for you.

mine just flat out does not work at all - i can turn it on and the little blue light comes on, but nothing else happens - compressor doesn't engage, nothing. i'm guessing that it might not have any R134 in it and the low pressure switch is keeping it from coming on, but i can't be sure as i can't d/l the service manuals from LCU's awesome website
unfortunately, dealer is 4 hours away and i'm too busy at work to take off anytime this month, so i guess i'll just sweat a little...
anyone know of any other source for electronic copies of the elise service manuals? - i'd gladly give lotus $25 for them if their site would just work, but oh well...
A:
so how would you know if your flap is working or not when you press the recirculation button?
A:
I have had mine in for AC service twice and now it has stopped working again
A:
works
(post 100!)
A:
Not to gloat, but just to say "don't settle"...mine works great at 94 degree temps- don't get me wrong, I've got my share of other issues...but my AC is not one of them.

My a/c has a hard time keeping up with the Florida heat, but I found out if I go fast enough, I get enough cooling breeze with the windows open. In all seriousness, my car had a coolant leak I noticed a week after having the car. There was a leaking o-ring assembly that needed to be replaced. This part is screwed in by hand and if it isn't screwed on perfectly, it will pinch the o-ring and allow a leak.
Spindoc and Ivan1, you should have the dealer/repair shop check the o-rings near the evaporator/condensor assembly in the front right section of the car if they have a hard time finding a leak. They should see it if they put dye in the refregerant.
A:
I will have them check it, thanks... the thing is, last time they worked on it, they supposedly hooked it up to some machine they have that helps to detect a leak....
A:
Mine works very well. Used it today.
A:
mine didn't work well at all until i by passed the heater core. Now, it works wonders, sometimes too cold in the morning, but its great at 100 degrees in Texas. I"ll what until late October to switch it back.
A:
Did Lotus change anything about 06 cars in regards to the A/C?
A:
Mine worked well the first month now it just barley works.
Something I plan to have looked at when I bring it to the dealer.
