Well maybe Dave and Jay are too cool for the rest of us... they have to wear it backwards.
A:
Maybe I'm wrong but....
Dave, I think you've got your arm on backwards and upsidedown... the crook should be towards the lower portion, not the top.
And Jay (Choi0706), it looks like your arm is upside down. The bow needs to be going towards the engine bay.
At least that's how it looks to me. Am I seeing things? See attached video...

I should have spoke sooner . . .

No pun intended, right?

choi0706 & motorcade,
I just noticed some aluminum shavings from my lid bone on the engine cover as well. I took a closer look at the install instructions again and some of the photo's here and realized that the "U" shaped bend in the longest piece on the lidbone is supposed to point toward the front of the car when open and up when closed. I had mine upside down (pointing to the back of the car when open and down when closed) and it looks to me like you do too choi0706. I think the purpose of the "U" bend is to keep that piece from rubbing on the lower part of the lid bone.
take a closer look at some of the first pics in the thread and compare them to choi0706 pics and notice the diference in the "U" orientation. I'm going to fix mine tonight and I'll take some pictures of the difference and will add them to this post then. Hope this helps.

EDIT: looks like keeper & JNC beat me to it check the orientation of your BONE

You're right. I had rub too (as some do) with the instruction method. I played with the center section and found this worked best for my particular install...note, I use a lid pin and have removed the guts of the lock assy.
A:
Yeah, make sure your bone is up.
Mine is installed correctly, but I am at work and can't reference it from here.
I'm going off memory.
A:
TTP has it the same way as mine.. his hasn't rubbed as much as mine.. my bone has been rubbed halfway gone..

Is the Lidbone strong enough that you could cut some holes (like the ones in the '05 pedals) in the main arm ?

Holy smoly... We're now modding the mods!

Probably, but why would you want to? For weight savings? My guess is that the whole thing weighs just ounces as it is.

Installed mine yesterday. I found that even the smallest adjustment of the locknuts changes its operation. I got it to the point I can even close it one-handed by slightly flicking the engine lid, causing the bone to fold. Haven't driven it yet, hopefully won't rattle.
So what are those little notches in the base plate for?

I believe you might be talking about the 111 logo...

When the LIDbone is pieced together, it should look like this. The u-bend should point towards the front of the car.

I ended up wrapping some electrical tape around points of contact (when lid is closed) and playing with the adjustments to try and cease the rattling but it hasn't cured it (although its slightly muffled). It sucks because it only rattles at idle, at least as far as I can tell, but that gets annoying as hell when the cars warming up in the morning or your sitting at a long stop light.
Any ideas?

Nylon washers? That doesn't work, get a nylong bushing/spacer and put a bolt through that.

Just for aesthetics only.

Installed mine last night. No problems at all; works great! Went for a drive right after and didn't hear any rattling even while sitting in a Steak N Shake drive-thru. I have the bolts snug but they are loose enough so that the mechanism slides easily as the instructions say. For those with rattling, try tightening it up until it starts to bind and then back off about 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Unscientific I know, but it worked for me.

When setting this up, keep in mind that metal expands as it gets hot. Per the instructions, allow enough slack in the lock nuts to avoid having anything bind. The engine will rock back and forth under torque. If the lidbone binds, it then would put strain on the lid bolts which is not good. I applied machine oil to the pivoting bits.
