Interior Exterior
Q:
Has anyone purchased and installed this new part yet? If so, how is the installation? Any pics?
A:
Where did you see this, I would be interested in getting something like this as well.
A:
Plastic rivets drilled into the clam from below... allegedly.
A:
I am getting my set tomorrow. The dealer told me that the installation involves drilling eight holes into the underside of the nose (ooh, scary - at least for me), and inserting eight plastic gromets to hold the nose guard in place. I still haven't seen how this works.
A:
Don't forget to get the inside of them painted first (same color as car), place a bead of clear silicone or similar caulking near upper lip of guards and then install grommits from the bottom.
A:
I talked to the Lotus Service Center about painting the inside of the guards and they were rather uncomfortable about doing it. They were worried with the paint adhering and with the 2 stage color. What to do? I have the scuff guard, but don't know whether I should try and find someone else to paint them. The Lotus instructions say "The shields are produced in clear plastic, and should be painted internally in body colour for minimal cosmetic impact."
A:
I've installed a pair of Scuff guards and have painted the interior Starlight Black. They look great. Just used SS screws to install and not the plastic inserts. Did not use the the silicone glue either, didn't feel comfortable gluing them on. They are very tight without the glue. The screws make for easy removal if necessary. Dupont can get the paint mixed for you, about $40 for a pint.
A:
Are the screws screwed into the plastic clamshell or do they attach to the frame? Also, did you paint the plastic as is or did you scuff it up somehow to give the paint something to adhere to - the plastic is very smooth?
I was figuring that the bead of glue was more to prevent debris and water from getting between the shield and the body and to prevent the shield from scratching the paint.
A:
Has anyone taken a picture of this yet? It's been talked about for awhile, but I don't think I've seen any pictures. Did I miss one?
A:
Any updates here? Any photos of the Lotus scuff guards? Any others on the market? Randy mentioned a titanium protector coming out. Anyone know about upcoming products? Shinoo?
A:
I can take photos tonight. As far as prep and painting go. Lightly sand inside of guard with 3M 600 grit paper, follow with wax/grease remover, spray with a coat of plastic adhesion promoter, follow with a coat of paint and your done. All I did was attach them with SS screws into the underside of the clamshell. Didn't see any advantage in gluing top edge as recommended in directions. Would make for tough removal or replacement in the future.

Where to buy the nose scuff guards?
A:
I think these scuff guards are a waste of time. I bought mine and am finding that getting them painted to match the car is so much of a hassle that I might as well wait for something better to come out. The biggest irritation is that the dealer won't paint them so I have to go through another body shop. They want the car for a full day so they can get a good color match. While they are a superb body shop - they have fixed a car of mine before - I hate the thought of leaving my car in their hands for a day. My experience has been that body shops and dealers are the worst possible place to leave a car when it comes to getting damage.

I'm in SD also. I have a painter friend that will take care of them for you asap without needing your car. If your interested, you can call me at 858-534-1978.

I bought this from the dealer too. Lotus makes it and you can see it in the 06 Elise brochure in the back. I want to put it on, but am scared. I'd really like to see pix of anyone's Elise that has it already. Pretty please.

Then click on exterior upgrades/bump guards on the right. Don't overlook the little arrows at the top right to go thru the photos.

Thank you for the pix... tough choice for me. Seems like the smart thing to do as I have a history of bottoming out, but not sure about the holes. Also, is there anywhere with pix of the clear?

I seem to remember some pix of these things quite a while back, showing them installed sans painting.
EDIT:
First picture in thread shows what looks to be unpainted guards.
HTH.

I have them painted racing green on inside and they are great, look like OEM. Would take picture but car is in shop for maintenance. Highly recommend them, but only if they are painted on inside. Saw a red demo elise with clear plastic ones and they look like poor add ons.

Here is a picture of one installed according to instructions, painted LRG on the inside.
