Soft top problem

Interior Exterior

Q:
I got the touring pack with the extra noise bit in the interior of the soft top.
But now it is falled away from the left side of the top, the glue has finished it's life.

I have to reglued it but the plastic side it's unaccesible in the part where the bit was glued.
So i'm asking how i can open the plastic side, i can't see any bolt or similar.
What kind of glue could i use?
Only mine was glued off?
A:
this is a warranty item. many others have reported the same problem. originally the dealers were replacing the tops, but then Lotus got smart and realized their dealers could just re-glue the liner. So dealers will re-glue the top for you...
A:
Ditto for me, same problem and had it repaired at the dealer. No problems.
A:
Mine is out of warranty...
I try to do by myself.
A:
check with the dealer anyway. It's a trivial fix and shouldn't cost much.
A:
......it happended to me too. Warranty item.
A:
Mine is out of warranty...
I try to do by myself. How's it out of warranty? There is a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty - or do you have a lot of miles on it?
A:
Tim, Iceman is not from this country and drives a 2004 Elise.
A:
Is it the same top as ours? give it to somebody who's car is in warranty and have them get it fixed for you Oops, Did I just say that out loud?
FYI, I am kidding -
A:
Thank you all.
I set it with glue by myself, if it's good to resist i'm satisfied but if it's not i'm gonna chase some new elises in warranty...

The original glue was burned by the hot summer sun i suppose, here there are about 38° and i leave the car parked with the soft top on the engine bay that was just hot by itself.
Another piece of unefficient english carmaker, i think that a different glue by factory could solve the problem but they are in England and there the weather is always raining and the sun is only in postcard.
A:
good luck with the fix. i had the same problem and the dealer already knew the problem before i even finished the sentence. i figure it they can complete your troubleshooting question, then its a bad thing...
A:
My touring top has never seen the light of day, still in the bag, strictly hardtop over here, maybe i should check it out. Looks like a hot glue gun with the appropriate adhesive would fix the problem, until the bond breaks down. Wonder why my AC works so well, must be something wrong!
Aloha,
Thomas Praetzel
I have the touring wheels as well

The softop, silver bullets liner came loose (his and mine were both early cars). We actually used the 3m contact spray adhesive which worked very well. The factory later started riveting them in the corners (I think they're rivets or perhaps bolts.

Ferrari of Denver riveted mine in the corners as it came off the truck. They had enough experience with the soft tops in our mile high sunshine to know they were bound to fail, so they fixed it in advance! 8k miles of daily on (when parked) and off (when driving) and its holding very well. I think for daily on/off use, mechanical fasteners are the only way to go.

I have never used my softop - Too damn hot here to take off my hardtop!
Maybe someday!
