Rain X for your Lotus or other cars

Interior Exterior

Q:
i went to my local pep boys and picked up a couple of bottles of RainX. There's a rebate offer for it here
RainX Rebate
basically it'll be buy 1, get 1 free. They have a bunch of other things as well if you look at the rebate form you get instore, but for some reason it doesn't list rainx. i looked and couldn't find it, so i'm just going to use the one in the above link. and since the rebate limit is 2, this means you can buy 4, and get 2 free.
it cost be $6.99 each. total after tax was $15.13 and after a $6.99 rebate, makes it $8.14 for 2 bottles of rainx
i've never used the stuff, so this will be my first time.

It's great stuff. Don't apply too much, wiipe it on, let it dry a bit then buff. You'll be amazed in the rain when the water just beads up and rolls off.

I love Rain-X, it makes a huge difference. Works well on the side windows too. You use so little of it for each application, though, that those two bottles you got are going to last you a LONG time!

We've all seen the infomercials for the supposed "miracle products". In my opinion, this is the only product I've ever encountered that truly fits that description.

that's good to know. but like i said, i've never used the stuff and i read the instructions...
can i just spray some on paper towel or should it be like a piece of cloth? and the instructions say to apply once and then apply again to make sure it's evenly distributed... oh, and it also says i need to wash the window/windshield before applying...
maybe i'm reading too much into it... but whats the point of having a spray bottle when it tells you to spray it on your cloth?
maybe just follow these instructions...

My experience hasn't been as positive.
When applied, it works great and the water beads up and does roll off, but at some point I did need to actually use the windshield wipers (this is on my Acura, not Elise).
The wiper acts as scraper and after 10 minutes or so of wiping I'm getting junk build-up on the windshield at the end of each wiper stroke. Then the blade starts sticking to the junk as it builds up, making a loud squeeking noise as it pulls away from the buildup.
It seems that the blade can remove the Rain-X, because after using the wipers for some period of time, the water does not bead up and roll off the Rain-X treated areas.
I still use it on the back and side windows, where it is great, just not on the windshield anymore.

What I do:
1. Clean windshield with windex
2. Fold paper towel into an eighth its size or so.
3. Pour a small amount onto towel, apply to small area of windshield in circular motions. Do this step twice.
4. Wipe off windshield with a dry paper towel
5. Wipe off windshield with a wet paper towel and dry it
6. If there's still some haze, clean windshield with windex (doesn't seem to take off much of the rain-x, though i imagine it's not the best thing).

In at least 15 years of RX use, I've never had that problem. Are you sure you applied it correctly (you have to wipe the film off with a damp towel first)? Are you using a different brand?
Whether you need your wipers or not is dependent on the aerodynamics of the car. It does not work well on my Elan since the airflow goes right over the windshield, but it does help the insufficient wipers, wipe a little better

I've been using Rain-X for ever since I could drive! And it is a wonderful product, My applications usually last 7-9 months. I don't see why this isn't installed on cars from the dealership, it would make for a lot more safer driving on the roads by all.

The regular Rain-X is great stuff, but stay away from their anti-fog for the interior. That crap is a nightmare. I've never understood how one of their products could be so good and the other so bad.
A:
Rain x is a great product. You will not need your wipers unless it is raining hard or you are not moving.
A:

Well it wouldn't go over well if they said, "...to make sure you use it up and buy another bottle twice as soon."

I use it also including during the winter months. With it on, it makes removing ice on the windshield easy.
A:
RainX is a great product, I like to do the final wipe with newspaper so not to leave any possible streaks or lint behind. Oh and for just cleaning your windshield use Invisible glass and newspaper to apply and remove best combo ever.
A:
remember those chemistry calsses where they taught you about ionic vs. covalent molecules? not a miracle product, just a smart use of science
A:
I love rain x. I use the windshield washer version. Every time I clean the windshield, it gets re-applied. Anything over 50 mph, and the water beads trace upwards and out of sight, no wipers are needed. (this is in a lr3 with a nearly vertical windshield.)
Oncoming cars can blind you pretty bad at night if you dont do a preemptive wipe before they get too close, though.
+100 for Rain-X Washer Spray.
A:
On a similar subject. I picked up some windshield washer with teflon in it. Its supposed to bead the water away as well. I haven't used it yet. Has anyone used this stuff? Is it any good?
A:
I just applied rain x yesterday and installed a Bosch 24' Icon windshield wiper. Waiting to have the car out in the rain to see how they work.
Here's how I applied mine.
1. Clean windshield with Detailers Paradise Clarity and their glass microfiber (EXCELLENT PRODUCT, I can't even begin to tell you how much better it works then windex and paper towels/newspaper/normal microfibers. There are still times when I'm not completely sure if my windows are up or not. Same would go for the windsheild if it wasn't for all the rock chips).
2. Applied rainx to a old microfiber and went over windshield with small circular motions
3. Waited for it to dry while I changed out the wiper
4. Used another old microfiber to wipe the RainX off.
5. Wiped windshield off with dry side of glass microfiber to make sure I got all the streaks out.
