Weight Loss Plan

Interior Exterior

Q:
We finally got the scoops on the car:
now you need to powder coat or replace that Chrome gas cap area....looks out of place now... nice car though.
A:
mmmmh... It is getting close (see below).. Looks very nice Pete.
Yep, we practically have twins! My RAC's are black so we'll even have black wheels on both cars :-) And, of course, I'll eventually cave in on the wing!
BTW - that is the best pic of the wing so far. Any chance you could take a few from several angles but farther away from the car and zoom in? Shooting from so close causes the camera to use a wide angle lens setting which tends to distort the picture; sometimes the wing looks tiny and sometimes it looks too big. Take the pics from farther a way and zooming in makes the pics look more natural. Thx

Hi, sleepless,
Where did you get the CF interior door panels? And do you sit lower in the Reverie CF seat than in the stock leather seat? I have a long torso and barely fit in the car with the helmet on.
Thanks.

Panels are from www.eliseparts.com.
I don't think they are any lower than stock; but if you leave out the ReVerie padding, you's sit about a half inch lower. I believe www.sector111.com has some aluminum seats that work well for tall drivers, should work for you.
A:
I sit about 1" lower and 1" further back than stock in Shinoo's aluminum seat. And it has fabulous lateral support and it's just the right width.

Sleepless,
What's the weight of your car now? FYI, my Reverie front splitter tore a chunk out of my clam and then exploded...
More Pictures on my website.
Are you doing any other mods? Removing aircon etc? I've just ordered perspex side windows for my car and will be drilling some holes in there for venting.
Tony
A:
Weight is around 1840lbs with a full tank.
I've already removed the A/C.
The only mods that I'm planning right now are:
- change 5 point sub-belt to 6 point sub belt (the 5 point was too uncomfortable )
- Install air temp, water temp, oil temp and oil pressure sensors and connect them to DL1 data logger.
- Install Race Technology's upcoming Dash1 and VOB (video overlay box)
- Install ChaseCam
- Switch to Hoosiers on RAC Monolite wheels
- Start using a HANS Device
A:
Ouch, mine is 1658 with half a tank. It's gone up a bit from before because of plumbed in extinguisher and some other trick bits. Having the gearing swapped out right now cos i'm bogging down in 3rd and 4th. Does the toyota lump really weigh that much more? I guess airbags, electric windows, ABS etc etc really adds up...
The Hoosiers are amazing. Simply nothing out there can keep up with them and we've tried everything. Everything fades rapidly.
I use a 4 point as can't the reason to use 5/6 point in anything other than single seater where you're practically lying down.
The perspex windows will make a big difference. Next up is the perspex windscreen but it scratches like a SOAB so I've got to get it coated first. That will save tons of high up weight.
Decided to put soft top back on for racing even though it's heavy. The Elise suffers massively from drag which slows the car too much in a straight line. My time without the front splitter was a whole second quicker!!
What size are the monolites? You gonna switch to 16/15s? Saves a lot of weight...

Mine started out at 1949lbs! So I'm quite happy with 1840lbs with a fire system, harness bar, harnesses and accusump. We're not that far apart. 1840 - 30 (1/2 tank) - 1658 is 152lbs. I believe most of that is in the engine and rear subframe; a few more pounds in the hardtop (I believe your weight is without the top?), passenger seat and harnesses, manifold, wheels, flywheel, steering wheel, etc.
The RACs are 16/17; I gave up trying to find a 15/16 wheel set as that seems too hard to obtains (of course Sector111 was able to find a set recently, but I've already bought my Hoosiers and already ordered the RACs so I'm sticking with that).
At this point, the best weight loss would be with me; I'm a good 30lbs overweight... still

my weight is with soft top on. how much does the engine cover weigh?

4.4kg. Why? Do you run your car without it?

No, but I want to make it lighter. I'm trying to remove all the high centre of gravity weighted items. Makes a huge difference in the fast corners. The main benefit of removing the final few kilos is under braking, not acceleration. I can't out accelerate an elise that's a bit heavier but I can outbrake it.
I also at some point want to change the stock hubs for motorsport alloy versions. There's just non out there for the S2 yet
As for body panels, just cannot justify changing the clams for CF as in racing, they won't last long. We make our own clams now in China so much much cheaper than buying the OEM item.
A:
How much is the soft top? The Benetec CF hard top is only 6.5lbs.
The Benetec CF engine cover (lid) is only 1.3kg compared to the stock 4.4kg.
The rollbar cover is 7 1/3lbs so you might consider the Benetec CF version which is only 2 3/8lbs. ().
I like using CF for the parts that aren't too easy to damage. CF doors would be cool too!
A:
the new engine and transmission add about 100 lbs to our car.

I assume your car has been lowered?
A:
Yup, but will be lowered even more shortly.

Much, much cheaper front clams!
Any way of getting those here Shinoo?

Any way of getting those here Shinoo? I had asked Tony about them a few months ago but he felt they are really only useful for track cars as the cosmetic quality is pretty sub-par. Is this still the case Tony?

They've got MUCH better since then BUT I think you guys have a different front clam to the standard S2? Can you confirm? I can take some pics of one that's just been delivered to an owner. They also produce rear clams too.
A:
Resurrect!
...Foam damping material behind speaker plastic trim 4.5 lbs. Is this piece of foam in the non-touring base cars as well?
I know someone posted a picture of it but I can't for the life of me find it this morning...
Oh... any updates?!
