Interior Exterior
Q:
Due to the 1000+ degree weather and 500% humidity... my cars' interiors would be suitable for melting lead.
I would like to tint my windows on the Elise and my new 997 Carrera S.
I know NOTHING about window tint.
What's the latest and greatest stuff out there What to avoid? How do I find a reputable installer?
Would should I expect to pay?
Thanks,
Karl

Being in Florida, you are in "the" window tint state
Just about any professional window tint shop will use good quality tints.
I haven't payed to have it done in a while but I would guess maybe $200 to do both side windows and the rear screen.
A:
I was quoted $230 for both sides and the rear. I kinda want to get the front tinted as well.
Regards,
John

That's how much I paid for in AZ. Both side and rear. It didn't matter what shade of tint....but the type of tint might make a difference.
And from what I understand, it doesn't make a difference if the size of the window is small since it the tint comes in a roll.

the side windows only-passed on the rear!

John, if you want to drive about 1 hour north, I got the sides and back done for $100.

Be sure to use a film with a high quality metallic (non reflective) or ceramic tint. Dye films degrade after a couple of years (especially in very sunny places like FL) and start to turn purple.
I had the sides and rear of the Elise done for $140.

I've had several cars done with Solar Gard (www.solargard.com) tint products at a local installer. Always had good luck and longevity with them. Uses a titanium film (or so they call it). Good stuff.

I had both front windows on my Yukon done for $50. This shop serves the local Lexus, Audi and Benz dealers. They were recommended by my body shop. They only carry one type of film, because they won't waste their time with cheap stuff. They do NOT use metallic films because the M-B customers got pissed when it blocked AM signals.
I have no clue what brand they used. They had 3M signs, but I don't think that's what the box said. The film itself was nice and thick.
Pick a shop that offers a lifetime guarantee for both color and bubbles.
Most states do not allow you to tint the windshield.
Note also that there is little change in UV/heat protection among different % tints. All levels of tint should provide 99% UV protection and approximately 50% heat (IR?) protection.
I found the medium size of the cheap Axxis sun screens at WalMart to fit pretty well in the Lotus.

Thanks in advance.
