Q:
I can see he eintire width of the rear view between both seats with my MicroMirror. I've never used the day/night feature in any car - ever - so the lack of one makes no difference to me. I simply can't understand why it would be such a big deal to anyone.
I've always hated the day/night thing too and never used them... until I got the Elise. It's so low to the ground that the headlights in the mirror really bug me.

It may work great, but sorry, it's been beat with an ugly stick.
Actually, it looks good when your seated in the car. and from the outside, from the front you don't notice the bare ribbed mounting plate; and like I said, one of these days, I'm going to get around to filling the ribbing with epoxy.
But it does work great, and really isn't that ugly in person. But it certainly isn't going to win any beauty contest, that's for sure.

Well, I used to move the mirror in my Elan such that the lights behind were not in my eyes since it has no day/night feature. However, it boggles my mind why anyone would design a mirror without this feature today. Even if you didn't have the lever to make the adjustment but put the right glass in so you could manually tilt it - that would be fine.
Having to do further mods to accommodate it - tint the rear window or the mirror itself is bogus. So, in my view, putting the regular mirror pane in the micro mirror was not too bright (sorry bad puns!).
I would like to buy one with the right glass.....

I have a Micromirror and honestly, the small size drives me nuts.
yeah, yeah... I know if it were larger I'd only be seeing headrests.... Maybe it's the shape... instead of being so oval, I would have been happier if it were "a little" wider on the sides...
Something about focusing on that small thing drives my eyes nuts.... but I've left it on...
The lack of Day/Night also is irritating to me. I don't drive that often at night, but where I live, there are very few streetlights... so when a car with headlights is behind you, it seems VERY bright... and having to move my head out of the glare kinda blows.
On a positive note, installing the Micromirror and removing the driver's "sunvisor" makes for a really nice view out the windshield.

Actually... I have a nice day/night mirror in my Miata - and I would very much like to change it to a plain mirror. Driving around at night with the top down causes problems. With the mirror in the "day" position, besides getting the glare from behind, every time I drive under a street light, I get the reflection from above. Switch it to "night" position, and less glare from behind, but every street light is like a strobe light flashing out of the mirror.
On my Elan, I simply set the mirror up a tad, such that the lights from behind shine on my forehead. I can usually see the tops of the cars behind me. If I need to see "lower", then a slight tilt up of my head, and I can see out to the rear normally.
But this is with a convertible - with the Elise, I don't have the problem with the day/night causing the distracting light from above. The roll bar/cover seems to block that line of view just fine. At least that was with the stock mirror - which was replaced.
My biggest reason for not going with the micro mirror (besides the cost) was the oval shape - if they had chosen a rectangular mirror I may have bought one...

I replaced my mirror with one from a Mercedes SLK. It's usefully smaller than the original, has the day/night feature, and I like the rounded shape.
Here's a couple of pictures:

The mirror is actually pretty cheap from a Mercedes dealer. The only problem was that it doesn't fit on the original 'boss' which is bonded onto the windscreen. I removed this by heating it and twisting it off. Then a helpful local windscreen supplier gave me the correct boss from a VW (they're common to several VW/Audi models). They had to remove it from a windscreen in their skip.
This was then bonded to the screen allowing me to fit the new mirror.

NOW we're getting somewhere! Granted, it's not as small as the Sector111 mirror, but then, some people say that's too small. And this one looks nice -- so much less "GM"-looking than the stock mirror. I'll have to talk to a local windshield shop about the cost of installing this.
Hmmmm....with all the experts on this board, how come it took Brendan, with just 2 posts, to come up with a decent response to my request???

Thanks pinmagic. I've only recently started lurking on this site, but I've owned, and been modifying Elises and Exiges since '98.
I haven't seen the micromirror, but it looks too small in the pictures I've seen. I don't think that both eyes will be able to see the entire back window simultaniously. I imagine that would really seem wierd.
My windscreen supplier was happy to do the work for me free of charge, probably just because they liked the car. I gave the guy a few beer tokens anyway, just because I felt guilty about taking up his time.

Probably because the rest of us experts still think the day/night feature is stupid and the micromirror is not too small.

BTW, I'm in favor of the day/night feature and slightly larger size especially if it costs less, too.

Which one did you get? From where? Size sounds good. Did it come with the magic sticks-to-windshield glue?
A:
Another $2.19 for the wind screen adhesive. I'll put a pic. up tomorrow with more details.

We have had this discussion before. the MicroMirror is much much smaller than that...and it is the perfect size

Not for me, and many others.

Have you tried one? and by that I mean drove an Elise with one for a few days? If you can answer that in the affirmative then I will leave you in peace If not
A:
I do not like the shape, I do not like the price, I do not like the lack of day/night
A:
I'd get the micro-mirror if it had day/night. I use that feature all the time. It's NOT the same as just moving your head till you don't see lights. You WANT to see the lights behind you, just don't want to be blinded by them
