ISO Smaller Rearview Mirror

Interior Exterior

Q:
Michael, your right about what you said about lack of acceptance. Look how much grief I got about my taste in mirrors. I can't be "wrong" for not likeing the shape or cost or the price of the micro mirror. Mine was a simple solution for ME.
A:
I never understand this lack of acceptance of what the other one prefers.
Hello Michael,
I think the point is that most people who say the Micro Mirror is not for them have never tried one. At first glance it would seem to be too small but it is perfect. As far as the oval shape leaving the corners off, the seats are curved at the headrest and the oval shape shows everything between the seats. The oval also gives you extra forward visibility that you would loose with the rectangular mirror.
So it is not my lack of acceptance but rather lack of understanding by those that have not had a chance to live with one
Michael, your web site was one of my favourites way back years and years ago when I was desperate to have a Caterham I am looking forward to getting to meet you at the WCLM in May.
Cheers,
Patrick

I think if you read back through this thread and count up the MicroMirror lovers you will see that I am correct
Now go in peace and love your mirror

I'm letting this go. Good luck.

Good idea.
The micro mirror isn't perfect:
1) It doesn't have day/night. Moving your head doesn't dim the view it eliminates it. Not the same. It's reasonable that some people would demand day/night.
2) It's too expensive. Some would prefer a slightly larger mirror and save $100. Also, reasonable.
3) It's oval. Some people don't like ovals? It's a rectangular view so rectangular makes more sense to some people even if that means sacrificing some forward visibility.
4) It's looks like it might be too small. Some have already said you can't see the whole view or you can't see it with both eyes. I tried taping a 2x4 ellipse to my mirror and I couldn't even see both seats, but perhaps there's some extra distance . . .
Anyway, what will follow now is somebody trying to counterpoint everything I just posted when point 1 alone is sufficient reason to not buy the hardly perfect mircomirror.
This was a thread about alternatives to the mircomirror. Why are so many people obsessed with proving there aren't any alternatives?

You don't have a Micro Mirror so you are not in a position to comment.
Why do you want to see the seats
Expensive is relative. I almost ran a pedestrian over because the stock mirror blocked my forward view...that would have been expensive.
Ovals allow more forward view, the lower half of the rear view is an oval
You have not tried one so...
All I have said is that if you try one for a few days you will be surprised
A:
So, you don't have Lotuscar's mirror so you're in no position to comment either?
I want to see _all_ of the area between the seats with each eye. That means being able to see the edge of both seats. Others have given me the info I need to know that the umirror can't do this. Why do I need the umirror to comment about this?
Expensive is expensive. I demand a cheaper alternative. Do I need the micromirror to comment about cost?
Ovals allow more forward view and less rear view. I don't care. Ovals are ugly. Possessing the umirror is going to change my mind about shape preference?
I don't need to try one to know that I want another solution. The reasons are clear.
All you have said is the same thing that was well known by those who want an alternative long before this thread was started. How do your repeated posts add value?
Oh and thanks for counterpointing. I was getting worried.
The above are rhetorical questions and hypothetical opinions in some cases. I really don't expect a reply since I already know the answer.

I don't understand all the discussion. Everybody knows the micromirror is perfect.

I actually like the mircomirror.
(even if it isn't perfect.)
- Day/night feature would be better.
- It does cost a lot, I would like a cheaper solution.
- Rectangular makes more sense to me, but that's not a show stopper for me.
I might pick one up eventually, but I'll never try to convince someone who wants day/night that day/night is needed or that if they only had one they'd change their minds.

I investigated mirror alternatives before Sector 111 provided their solution. I know the oval mirror was available for hot rodders. The company that supplies the oval mirror has a rectangular one as well. I personally(!) prefer rectangular. I also prefer functional, regardless of appearance. I did the same thing. If they had used a rectangular mirror (or offered that option - they can be bought from the same source), I would have gone that way.

Instead, like Michael, - for around $20, but that was because I bought an extra OEM mirror (for $14) to cut up and same the original.

One thing I like about my mirror (and it appears Michaels too) is that they sit up higher than the Micro Mirror. I don't need the oval shape to give my more visibility forward, my line of sight is under the mirror, so it doesn't interfere with forward vision at all.

Here's a picture of my (dirty) "home made" mirror - it's 4 ½ inches by 1 ¾ inches, and sits very high on the windshield.

Don't upset Patricko. Don't worry, he has locks on all those. You could run far away before he could get them unlocked and loaded...
