Good news is that I bought the micromirror and it looks/works GREAT! I was having some warranty engine work done so I asked the dealer to install it at the same time.
Bad news is that a silver dollar sized piece of the glass came away with the mirror while they were trying to get the stock unit off (pretty good glue, if you ask me).
Good news is that Lotus USA decided that the windshield must have been defective so they replaced it for free.
Here is what it looks like installed. I can see the seats at the very edge of the oval sides and it is small enough to duck your head when some big SUV pulls up behind you with its lights - so the dim fearture really isn't missed. I can see just about as much out the back with this mirror that I could with the stock and the forward visibility is considerably better.

Matt,
How did you use the paint can opener? Am I right in thinking that you DON't need to remove the window mounting piece the factory mirror attaches to?
Chris
The paint can opener was approximately perpendicular to the windshield, as I dropped it into the slot from the top over the metal spring, which is visible from above the car (the top was off the car, made this job much easier). Then, I pulled the opener away from the windshield, so pulled it towards the gearshift. While doing that, I was putting gentle downward pressure on the base of the mirror. It slid free, piece of cake. Correct, you do not need to remove the stock mirror mounting piece. The new mirror slips into the slot in that stock mirror mount and is held fast with two set screws.
I took my first drive with the mirror, and have mixed feelings. I do love the increased forward visibility, but I'm not yet used to the rearward visibility. I seem to be having a harder time analyzing rearward traffic (for cops) as I used to. There's no trouble identifying the presence of vehicles behind, it just seems like there's not as much detail if that makes sense. It's like the mirror is perfectly sized if you look at it with one eye, but in stereoscopic vision the overlap just isn't quite enough? I dunno, I still love it, nice improvement over the stock one though if they had one just a little bit larger I'd probably get that instead.

Thanks Matt, guys for the info!

Do most people get black or brushed aluminum color micro mirrors?

I went with black for my saffron yellow. I didn't want it to stand out. I love it. Combined with the multivex mirrors you can't go wrong.
