Two mods to avoid scraped nose in lowered Elise

Interior Exterior

Q:
I've scraped the nose of my Elise many times, especially after I lowered it to 110mm/115mm. I've done two mods to increase clearance: one was proactive and was was reactive.
The first photo shows the mod to my driveway. It works great, but it has the disadvantage of only working in one fixed location. I don't plan to bring along the 2x12's with me wherever I go to be able to ford uneven terrain.
The second photo shows what happened when I hit a bouncing ice chest on the freeway. It was a bit scarey since cars were swerving all over the place. Hitting an ice chest was preferable to hitting one of the cars, though.
I had been thinking about doing the mod pioneered by Michael Sands on his model and by Randy Chase on his Uberclam anyway, so I had Specialty Car Craft remove the winglets and license plate plinth while they were replacing the front clam. The third photo shows the clam after modification, but before being painted.
Michael Sands' model is shown in the fourth photo and Randy's Uberclam is shown in the fifth photo.
The car is now painted and I'll be taking it to Buttonwillow on Wednesday. The mods remove a little bit of downforce at the front, so I'm thinking about a front splitter that doesn't spoil the ground clearance...
Make sure that you have zero-deductible comprehensive insurance if you plan to hit an ice chest! Or anticipate a rock breaking your windshield, for that matter.

Looks nice...I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

I was talking to a guy awhile back that was telling me about embedding skateboard wheels into the underneath frontal of an Esprit or ? to protect it from scraping? Anybody got information what might be involved to do the same on the Elise? Sounded both kookie and cool!

Here's a cell phone photo of the new modified clam. It came out beautifully Thanks SCC - Specialty Car Craft! They are the greatest -- great work and absolutely the best customer service in the world
