Speaker grill Bling!!

Interior Exterior

Q:
I had my dash replaced by Criswell recently because of bubbles in the materials. The new dash included silver speaker grills that I personally think detracts from the interior minimalist aesthetic.
When I expressed my objection to the new grills, I was told that this was the only option available, presumably in response to the earlier popping speaker grill problem.
A few months ago, when I selected the micro mirror, I picked black over silver because I liked the minimalist look. So much for my interior decorating scheme!
Are the silver grills standard on the 2006 models? Anyone know of other aftermarket options to switch back to a more unobtrusive look?
A:
Sorry, those are hideous and don't match the Elise IMO. You can paint them black, or change to another speaker. When I saw the option of those, I opted for the Alpines.
I think the blend in well and they also work better. And they are cheap.

is it april 1st already??? they do kind of match the pattern of the led taillights though; dont you get reflection issues?
you cant be serious...would your old speaker grills not fit or did they throw them away??? wow I see a possible market on ebay for the old speaker grills...my recommendation - buy a pair of the alpines that Randy used (I also got the same ones) - look a hundred times better, sound much improved and inexpensive mod... ($49 a pair)

the alpines look like they're modeled after a car's wheel.
not bad but visually "louder" than the original stock grill.
A:
ivan1 -- yes, there is significant reflection with the new grills -- another downside.

I wonder if younger people think phone dial when they see those replacements?

A:
didn't someone else already get these hideous grills as replacements? i seem to remember someone in the Bay Area posting the pic. Was it Chococar???
A:
if the old grills fit, you are welcome to mine
A:
I got the same Alpines Randy got. The sound is improved and I like the look.
You can have my old covers if you want them, too.
A:
I'm cheap.....I would just paint them black.
A:
ivan1 and surferjer -- thanks to you both for the offer of your orginal grills. I need to determine whether the new dash is compatible and I'll also look into the Alpines.
Does anyone know if these new silver grills are now standard on the 2006 models?

Younger people probably wouldn't know that your picture was related in any way to a telephone.

But it might sound like you are on the phone,
All for looks not the sound quality right ?

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=13210 I don't see any mention of the grills being included on that site. They do include a set similar to Randy's photo above?
A:
rrg,
I think the grilles would look great with some semi-gloss black paint. They aren't that hard to remove with a little patience for the hard to access screws near the windshield. I question the sound trasmission quality of the grille style, but then again, the entire Eilse cabin eliminates any discussion of sound quality.
If you want quality speakers and minimal apearance I would suggest the Focal speakers. Here's a post I did on my installation:

I too have the same alpines and agree. The improvement from stock sound is alot better and overall is not bad considering the bad acoustics for the car, but then again we didn't buy elises for the stereos. I like the look too.

Another phone dial

That is where I ordered mine from. same grill was included.

If any of you have an original mesh front grill laying around, please PM me. I was stupid enough to misplace one and now I have a gaping hole in the dash (not speakers since the car is mostly gutted, but the gaping hole just looks like a wound ).
Thanks
A:
Sleepless you have a PM.
