Q:
First off, I'm not trying to insult or denigrate anyone here.
After about 150 miles of use my LidBone bent itself (at a 90 degree angle) in two places and refused to fully extend. Note that this was on the morning after a full track day. Later on that second day the unit broke altogether near the engine-top mount. Soon thereafter it was in the trash.
I did take care when installing not to over-tighten any of the locknuts. FWIW it was really useful the four times I sucessfully extended it.
As I said, I'm not trying to insult anyone, just wanted to share my experience. If you're using or plan to use the device, a) you may want to remove it for track days and b) 'loose' means really, really loose.

does sector111 offer any warranty on this item?

I saw Ram's mangled lid thingy - it was very much self destructed! the Alumn. seems of a very soft series, and there does not appear to be much "slack" in the way it attaches to the engine, great idea - execution needs a little work...
in your best mission impossible voice over "this lid bone will self destruct in..."

Aluminum is susceptible to heat... the heat from the engine could anneal it over time? What aluminum are they using? This just makes me want to go get my materials science book.

Maybe they shuld be using titanium....

My LIDBone suffered a premature death as well. The 2 central pieces rattled themselves off during a track day. I had Locktited the nuts (on top of them being lock nuts) but to no avail. Clearly the design has some problems. It's a shame, because I liked the convenience.

My lidbone pretzeled in the middle of a track day. Sector111 sent me a replacement part (it sounds like the same part you are having a problem with). I installed it and it did the same thing this past weekend during a track day. Both times I took extra care to leave the bolts that hinge loose as the instructions state. When the first one bent Lillie seemed to think someone shut the lid without pushing the lidbone to release. I figured this could have happened since I open my lid between sessions and someone might have pushed it down. I know for a fact this did not happen this past weekend. I bet this is becoming a common problem for them. Could heat cause the nut/bolt to tighten up, thus causing it to stress?
Sector111 has been nothing but terrific to me so I'm not worried about it.

The LidBone I have showed signs of galling between the aluminum parts at the hinges. The problem is that like metals will gall and seize when heated and worked together. There needs to be bushings or bearings at the hinge points so I modified mine with nylon bushings at the hinge points that allow the bolts to be fully tightened yet the aluminum arms are still free to move and none of the metal parts touch each other. So far so good, but if it tightens up again I will go with bronze bushings and proper shoulder bolts.

AFAIK it doesn't take much heat to anneal lesser quality AL, 300F-600F. Add to that the constant soak time and cooling phase and you get metal fatigue.
I cut my losses and sold mine before I left it on the road or track.

I was planning on getting a lid-bone... I guess not anymore.

So, anyone here know the manufacturers so that this info can get back to them and they can make lidboneII?
A:
I thought someone from Sector111 would chime in here so I just emailed Lillie.

Lillie has no connection with Sector111, she left to pursue other interests. You need to talk to Peter.

seemed like a good idea , except for the lidbone attaching to the engine bone part.......... what about saftey wiring the bolts so they can stay loose but not turn and back themselves out. when it works, is it really that much better than the flimsy little lid prop that comes stock?

Yes. I love it and use it every day I drive the car. I really hope I never run into an issues with it.

Mine died as well - vibrated apart I guess. I purchased new hardware to put it back together. I liked it when it was working (not very long)
