Painting Grey Shifter "spine" Body Color...

Interior Exterior

Q:
Randy,
At the top and bottom you've got to slides that are part of the green housing, I place a screwdriver and tapped LIGHTLY one side at a time, popped right out.
FYI< I pulled my tunnel again, sucked it up and shipped it off to Mark Starr to have it done body color, he says the finish will be as good as the paintwork on the car. I think they plan to do several.

Chris,
May I ask how much for the paint job on the console? I'm thinking about taking it to an interior shop and having it covered in leather.

Those who want to do the tunnel in leather, here's what bell-covill in UK do. Picture is an s2 tunnel..

Chris - having seen the painted console in person on Mark's car, I can tell you that you will not be disappointed. I will probably have one done in yellow for mine and keep the original as well...

******Everything else was easy.. except I can't get the lighter socket out. Not sure what needs to happen to remove it.******
Thanks, Randy. The lighter socket comes out by squeezing it..just keep trying! It stays in because those spring tabs pop out to retain it.

Bell and Colvill have quite a selection....interesting note for those who want stage 2:
"The rear undertray will need modification to ensure clearance.
A sports undertray will be available in the furture for owners not wishing to alter the original. We do not have a release date for the sports tray at the moment."

Ivan,
Good to get feedback on Mark's HRM tunnel painting, had a good feeling about it after talking with him on the phone. Apparently he's had a number of requests.

Does the paint or clear have any sort of flex agent added. As I remember the tunnel flexes a bit when you shift. Cracking will occur without it.
A:
Chris,
Excellent move. I asked Mark to prepare to paint my console when my car arrives. It really looks fantastic. I think Mark said he is ordering some "core" parts.

HI Jay,
Me needing instant gratification, I went ahead and pulled mine so as not to have to wait longer than necessary.,

That's the option I'm currently pursuing. If it works out price-wise, I'll probably go that route.

As I've ordered magnetic blue and biscuit I would be very interested in what you find out (and pictures of the end result). I don't think this sounds like something I'd want, but I wouldn't mind checking it out.

The flex that is occuring is not the plastic console bending or whatever. The thing that is moving is the metal frame of the shift assembly. The console is attached to that assembly, hence when the frame moves the skin over it does too. You can firm it up quite a bit with some simple tweaks while you have the cover off.

Can Krylon or some other heat resistant paint be colored to match the car? Since I will be ordering a can of paint in NFB to paint the center cover I might as well paint the engine covers in body color. Will this be too monochromatic? opinions?
A:
anyone know if all the black hoses hooked into the engine can be spray painted with Krylon Fusion?

Has anyone found a Carbon Fiber one other than on eliseparts? That one says it's only for RHD but what 's the difference? I see that the front of it is slightly angled and there is no hole for the hazard lights button. I think the holdes for the screws are in different places too. I would cut or drill holes in it though if it fit other than that.

That shifter opening looks too small.
I am aware of a couple companies working on carbon fiber parts now. Sector111 will have something.
A:
Kuroi,
You can't adapt the RHD eliseparts one to a US car. The offset in front for the alum upright piece is opposite of side it needs to be on. Also that slot is not tall enough for the US alum upright piece (this is the piece to prevent interference of passengers feet on the accel./brake pedal) Taller in the US car as it's an issue whereas in RHD car its not.
Additionally this cf piece is set up for the s2, ie no mappocket in back as on the US cars and 111R.
in other words way too much work modifying it to get it to work

Thanks! I wouldn't have guessed that the aluminum peice in the middle was taller. I had assumed you wouldn't use a shift boot anymore because of the size of the hole.
