Painting Grey Shifter "spine" Body Color...

Interior Exterior

Q:
that CF tunnel looks sweet. Looks like an S1 tunnel? Sorry, haven't been keeping up. I'm in a library in Tucson right now. LOL.
How much for that piece?
A:
So what does Mark Starr charge to paint a console? I'm debating sending it off vs. doing it myself. Thanks
A:
Shay,
It's an S2 tunnel and won't fit our cars.
Chris
A:
how difficult is it to remove the shifter console? seems like an easy piece to paint with Krylon Fusion.
A:
ruck,
It takes maybe a half hour to take it out and remove the components from it. Stan did a step by step write up in one of the threads.
I painted mine in wrinkle finish black and it looked ok but I decided to send it off to HRM to let them do it right.
As the tunnel has a bit of a texture to it, if you want it glass smooth like the bodywork, it entails LOTS of sanding, as I wanted it nearly perfect I decided to let the pros do it.

what does HRM charge?

Mine's done! I removed the center tunnel/cup holder and had them both sprayed and clear-coated. The Lotus paint code was not in their system so they used a Prophet digital system to get an exact color match. I couldn’t tell a difference in color even when I had the sample right next to my car. They got it perfect. It even has the exact same color shifting properties of BRP. I haven’t cleaned the car in over two weeks so the rest of the car is a little dirty. I am very pleased with how good it turned out. My GF said it was one of the best upgrades you can do to the Liz, and felt it made a huge difference to the look. I have to agree. What do the rest of you think?
A:
looks great derek!
how much?

$187. The dealer had quoted me $500. Luckily I found a good body-shop that wasn't too far away.
A:
Sweeeeet! That's my color! Now I'm definitely doing it, but the question is do it myself, or pay for someone else?
A:
looks great. Has anyone considered painting the black portion of the handbrake lever to match???
A:
I don't think I want to paint something black that I pull on every day at least twice. It would get pretty grimy fast.

I would be more inclined to have a leather boot made for the handbrake (so it would match the gearshift).
A:
http://www.elise-shop.com has a black anodized alum brake handle. The killer is shipping expensive.(22 euros)
Chris
A:
Read ivan1's question carefully. He's not asking about painting the handle.
A:
Ivan, I think it looks better black because it is all mechanical looking. Not a housing. But with hardware and wires and such attached to it. I would rather not draw more attention to the black part of the hand brake. I would rather dress up the handle.
A:
Now that my center console is painted, I have been thinking about adding some long term protection. Where can I get some Clear-Bra type material to coat the area that is most likely to come in contact with a passenger’s shoe? I wouldn’t need very much.
A:
