Harness bar comparison?

Interior Exterior

Q:
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who as compared the Blackwatchracing Harness bar ($190) to the Sector111's "4Tress Harness" ($229) and "Race Harness" ($219) bars. The Race Harness is 1.5" thick, but I didn't find info on the diameter of the other two. Other notes:
BWR:
integrated support for camera mount.
wrap style belt attachment
Race Harness:
1.5 OD
bolt style belt attachment
4Tress
wrap style belt attachment
Any other differences I should now about before making a purchase? Thanks

Have you ever considered the factory harness bar? My tech just installed one to one of our clients Exige and boy is it thick, WOW! Do you have an Exige or an Elise?
A:
price on the factory bar?
A:
The BWR sits higher than the 4Tress, which put the shoulder belts at too much of an angle. The new S111 bar looks even worse, but I haven't tried it.
I'd recommend the 4Tress (I have the BWR, but only b/c I got it before the 4Tress came out.)

JeffersonRaley - Thanks - this is very useful info. Since you have both bars, is there any chance you could tell me the difference in height? Or perhaps reference the height to something in the car - for example, where does the 4Tress bar sit in relation (how far below or above?) to the OEM shoulder belt anchor point? Many thanks!

A:
Sorry for any confusion, I only have the BWR. I don't know how much lower the 4tress sits. I would guess 1-2 inches.

Actually, the new bar is designed like the Lotus motorsport bar. It is at the same height as the Lotus sport bar, which is lower than the 4tress bar.
A:
i am researching these bars as well. does anyone know the acceptable range of belt angle off the shoulders to the bar?
fwiw, i a very tall (6'-4") and i plan to use a 6 point system without cutting holes in the seat back (because they would need to be in the narrowest part of the seat given my height).
TIA.

are you able to get this? price?
my local dealer is being told by LOTUS it is not available.
[edit] dealer just clarified for me that this bar will only fit the exige.

I have Sector111's 4tress bar, and am very happy with it.

i really like the apparent ease of install for the 4tress bar. what gets me is that all the safety info i have reviewed is unanimous in stating that harness shoulder belts should go straight back to the bar or to a max of 10 degrees down off the shoulder (simpson specs) or 20 degrees down off the shoulder (schroth specs). for me, that means the aftermarket bars are too high, and i am 6"-4" tall. i imagine most other drivers are in the same situation.
just trying to do this right.
update on my earlier post: lotus of southbay says the lotus harness bar *will* fit the elise and it is shipping asap.
A:
How difficult was it to install?

I don't see it as difficult but, more as time consuming as you have to remove at least one seat and you will have to either get a different back panel for the speakers as it gets in the way of the bar or just do without the speakers. All and all it is a very good harness bar.

Not true as I have an Elise with the factory harness bar.

I'd listen to the boys from South Bay, they seem to know what they're talkin' about...sometimes

I would recommend putting some pictures at eye level of the bar installed in a car. My shoulders sit higher than the top edges of the seats so I could get away with a high mounted bar. Plus, I won't have to cut any holes in my seats up top.
My question is, which bars require modifications to the panels?

Our Racebar is the only one that requires modifications to the rear plastic panel. This is really most appropriate for owners who are stripping their cars for track only use.
We now have another option for shorter folk - the V-Force. It sits lower than the 4Tress. We recommended it for people who are under 5'8". Yes I use one It features a 'V' shaped tube that will prevent the bar from rotating. Production parts will be available within 2 weeks.

Had South Bay install the Factory Bar.
They did a great job!
