Q:
Has anyone tired to fit one of these to the Elise?
When you buy one of these is it just the rubber so it could just be cut to fit or is there some kind of mounting hardware around the filler.
A:
I have one of these and it works great.
One end of the rubber strip has a hole that stretches over the fuel pipe. Remove the filler cap, stretch the strip over the filler pipe, push it down as far as you can. Replace filler cap. Roll up strip and close fuel door.
The strip works well when unfolded, protecting the paint. I would estimate that the strip is about 14 inches long.
The pics show it better.

Where did you get that? I have something similar, but it's too short and still leaves the corner exposed to the pump handle.
A:
I got one from Griot's Garage...Part #45533

i just use the paper towels at the station... works fine for me =)

That's what I have. Don't you think that it stops just a little short of the corner?
A:
If you want a flap, just buy an inner tube for a wheelbarrow (ie small tube) Cut it to the shape you want, cost you less to make than the postage griots will charge to get their item to you.
I don't really use anything, I just point the nozzle down before I put in to the tank than pull out slowly and turn the nozzel up, no runs no drips no errors

Works fine for me -- I even trimmed mine to make it a bit more compact.

I just hold the handle (parallel to the ground) - it only takes a sec. anyway with such a tiny tank.
A:
I use the cap to prevent spills... I hold it under/touching the nozzle as I move the nozzle away. Works pretty well.

I made up a bunch of these (including the one Wayne posted pics of here) which I'd be happy to share with my fellow ET'ers. Just PM me a mailing address.

I use this one on my Miata and my Elise. Seems to work pretty well...I don't think it has to be all that long to protect from spillage.

Probably something motorcycle riders just learn to do. Spilling gas on the tank would usually mean that it would soak into my pants and then "burn" my leg. Only had to do that once to learn the proper way.
Then there is the Elan, where the gas cap is on the top of the body...

I peeled my clear bra off the gas cap and keys area yesterday, it looked terrible.
maybe i should get one of these instead, or just be careful filling.

Yep Tim same as my 74 europa, and if you didn't want to take all day filling up you had to go each gas cap and fill it up! Seems it took forever for the gas to levelt out between the two tanks.
