2000 miles and still getting a lot of off-gassing

Interior Exterior

Q:
Just curious if there are any products out there that will repel or prevent my windshield from getting fogged up. I have to clean it about every 3 days or so.
A:
The only one I'm aware of is made by Rain-X. I'm sure there are several others, though. Here's a link:

I am at almost 20k miles and still get a fogged/dirty windsheild when I use the defrost setting. Since the problem is material being depositied on the inside of the windsheild, as oppossed to water condensation, I don't think RainX will help. I just think it is the car's way of expressing home sickness for foggy old England...
A:
Clean the inside of the glass with clay bar and mild soapy water, then reclean with windex.
A:
I believe your problem is not from the car, but rather the products that have been used on the plastic dash.

BTDT.
A:
Stick a box of arm and hammer on the dash when its parked.
Seriously.

A:
So Dave, where do you store your Arm & Hammer?
A:
Rain X works GREAT for inside dirt/fog.
A:
Mine doesn't outgas anymore. I just set it on the dash when it was parked overnight. Then took it out to go to work.

Lay off the burritios and chocolate milk dude!
wipe the inside of the windshield off with one of thoose "synthetic shammy dry your car off towel thingies" when damp they are bit tacky and will clean the glass off very well, takes about 30 sec. while drying off your car.

I thought this was something all Elises did. I've had mine since January 2005 and have about 8,000 miles on it. It still fogs up the inside of the windshield just as bad now as it always had, and I've never used any products on the plastic.

...not the fogging from temp., all cars do that - i think the issue he asked about is a foggy like residue on the glass.? maybe thats what you mean to though?
i only noticed it when the sun was low.. i wipped it down and no problems since, but i do wipe the inside glass every few months

I had this annoying problem with my MR2 when I lived in Florida. My answer was instead of turning on the defroster, turn on the air-conditioning. Cleared it right up. Moving to a drier climate took the problem clean away.
Of course if you don't have air-conditioning or want to move, try one of the other suggestions. That clay bar or rainx sound good.

This is not fogging, or something that the air conditioning can take care of. It's a thick whitish coating on the windshield that windex and other glass cleaning products don't come close to cutting without substantial elbow grease. I'd say mine takes about 3-4 days to coat the lower inside portion of the windshield to the point where it would be dangerous if I had to look through it. The parts further from the bottom of the windshield are less effected. It varies by the amount of sun incident on the dash. In the winter is isn't a problem, but in summer it's really bad if I forget to put in the sunshade while I'm at work.

so any real good fix for this? can the dealer do anything?

I don't think the dealer can do anything about it, as it's inherent to plastic dashes. My Mercedes does it to, but to a lesser extent. My Elise did it, even when nothing was used on the dash.
A clay bar isn't necessary, but if that works for people, then fine. A dry MF towel sometimes works, and if not, I use a bit of glass cleaner with it.

My car stopped doing it after about 9 months or so. She did it a lot while parked in the hot Oklahoma summer, but since I brought her home, I haven't had that problem.
While it was an issue, I started wiping the inside of the windshield with a microfibre towel everytime I got in. That kept it from building up and becoming difficult.

- Justin Exactly... "wipe like you mean it" keeps AB clean.

In the 1950s people used to use a glass cleaner that looked like a white pasty wax. Rub it in with a cloth and then wipe it down. Not only does it get the glass much much cleaner than windex, but it also seems to prevent the glass from getting fogged up for a really long time. I bought some of this stuff in restoration hardware.
