How about just leaving the stripes bare?

If my clam was carbon fiber, I think I would leave the whole thing bare. Needs these carbon fiber access panels to finish it off, though:

Naw. I like green. And you can see the carbon weave in the rest of the paint anyways. It wasn't such a cleanly done piece that the weave all went the same way over the whole body anyhow. It's a wet lay piece, and it's extremely strong, but it's actually somewhat heavier than stock. I don't like cracking my clam on cones any more than Randy does.
I would love to get the access panels, but a little at a time... Next on the list is suspension and wheels. I'm slowly converting it to become a pure track toy.

do you find that it has the same shine quality as the factory paint?

Yes the 5 year stuff from Stickercity has a gloss finish as opposed to the higher quality 7 year stuff used by HRM which has a satin or matt finish.

The vinyl stripes are glossy, but they don't reflect like the factory paint. I went with Stickercity stripes. I had a shop apply silver stripes with a black outline on a graphite grey. The installation and the material cost me about $600.
I had wanted to have stripes painted on, but the estimates I was getting were about $3500. To do it right the front clam has to come off, or so I was told. Screw that.

do you think the paint route might be something a dealer can do? naturally i'd trust them more, seeing as they would know how to do it properly.

The only dealer that would know about stripes is HRM. This is not a factory option so going to a dealer will buy you nothing. Your going to spend a ton to paint these stripes and if you dont like them you are stuck with them down the road. Stickercity is $120 plus $300 to $500 install. No brainer vs paint.

A Lotus dealer with an in house paint shop is probably quite rare considering that they are a fairly small outfit. Most of them have relationships with body shops and they farm out the painting work to these guys.
HRM wouldn't sell me any stripes, even after I had spent several thousand dollars on HRM trim shop accessories. I was told that the vinyl they use for their stripes are in large sheets and the installer trims them as they are applied. I live in Texas so popping into HRM for a stripe job was not an option. Therefore, I went with the Stickercity stripes.
Find yourself one of the ricer shops. They stripe a lot of cars.
