Q:
We finally got a sunny day here in San Diego to race the boat. It has rained every other race day since October. When I came back to the car I noticed the Passenger Air Bag cover is open. Seems it is being held on by Velcro and the glue side of the tape came off the cover.
Symbolic did take the car apart to search out an electrical problem that resulted in replacing A/C relay module, including taking the front clam off. Would they have had to take the dash apart? Would Velcro actually meet the safety specifications for crash protection?
I am trying to schedule my 1K service this week, but want to know if they try to BS me with

plastic clips hold the airbag cover on, but they are one-time use, meaning that removing the cover breaks the clips and then new ones must be used to reinstall the cover. more than likely the dealer needed to pull the dash to fix the a/c problem and did not have the clips in stock for the cover. just have them order some up but let them know in advance since it might take some time to get...

I hit a bump and my cover came loose. Mine has two metal springy clips on the dash that hold in place, or so I reinstalled it that way.
I'll get the cover fixed at my 1k service.

Mine uses the one-time-use plastic clips; just picked up a set last Wed in fact.

Where did you get them? What brand, model, etc. are they?
Thanks.

yep you can use the metal ones to hold the cover in but its not the safest idea... remember that the airbag opens and consequently the front cover flies off at about 150 mph. having any sort of metal flying around at that speed could possibly be problematic.

I need to order some when I get a stereo and passenger airbag on-off switch installed. do you have a part number for us?
A:
Try B121U0117F, Symbolic put 4 on my invoice for 1K service at N/C. Seems it was Lotus Rep's idea to use velcro until they could get the parts in. The service dept had the parts waiting, knowing I would be in soon. I just wish they had told me.
A:
can you post a pic of the area with the velcro? I have a white thing between the glove shelf and the bottom of the passenger airbag cover... wondering if I got velcro too. if you rap on the cover it makes a plastic on plastic sound, wondering if it's been a partial source of the rattling sound symphony in the car...
A:
OK, mine's doing this too now. It hasn't fallen off yet but the right side came loose. Does this mean I have to order new clips?

AFAIK, my dash has never been taken apart, but it sounds like they used velcro. I was wiggling the cover left and right, then tried to take it off, and I could hear the velcro (or what sounds like it). Was then worried about the dangers of taking it off, so I didn't.
