Insulation trying to get back to england...

Interior Exterior

Q:
Hola Elise folk. I've got a weird one for ya...
The insulation under the driver side door sill is slowly creeping out and attempting to make it's way back to england! It started small (about 1" snuck out a distance of .5") and now it's big (6" is out and it's out far enough that it's free from the sill)!
Anyone else have this problem?
Should I just take the plastic cover off the door sill and re-seat the insulation?
Any other suggestions?
if this isn't clear I could take some pics.
Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem. I tried to take one of the plastic sill covers off but wasn't able to and didn't want to force it too much. So I just took a razor blade and trimmed the excess foam off.

I noticed a little black rubbery material on my passenger side. Is that what you are asking about? So it creeps out at night or what?
I've done what Dro (single name, original, the one and only, first and best ) did, trimmed it with a razor blade.

did the shave stop the problem? At least we know it won't noticably increase the cabin noise on the highway! :P

It stopped it from annoying me. I haven't noticed a 5 O'Clock shadow yet.

Oh it'll be back, its never ending Lotus ooze.

Adam is right. My theory is that it's like a worm, if you cut some off it just regenerates . My question is, how bad would it rattle without the insulation?

It only oozes for a little bit, trim it off and it'll be fine.

I've had my car since November 05 it's still oozing, trim it every 2-3 weeks

I've had my car since November 05 it's still oozing, trim it every 2-3 weeks Same here, except I've had mine since Oct '05. Still oozin strong. It stinks when somebody says "hey, nice car. Can I see the inside?" excitedly, followed by "What's that stuff coming out from there?" disappointed. Hard to explain to a stranger that a car such as ours (built for what it is built for (racing) and nothing else(comfort or luxury)) has sound insullation and I'm not sure why it comes out and then the infamous "they all do that". But such is life. I still love the little buggers! even if it oozes for ever!
A:
if Steve McQueen appears, get out of the car!
A:
Just do what I did. Take a chain saw...................
Just kidding, I tucked mine back under the sill and it oozed back out so I left it alone. I might try scaring back into the sill with a loud shout, but I don't have the energy right now. Maybe tomorrow.

The famous Lotus "spooge!" Do a search on "spooge" and you'll get a number of results.

I took my sill up and with a few dabs of two part epoxy glued it back down. I have been told that the power washing is the cause of the creeping insulation; reminds me of my Triumph TR8 when I was a kid doing the same thing, never get a Triumph wet. You might consider hand washing instead.

I'm glad I am not alone on this one. I noticed that on my car and just assumed it was part of the charm. Maybe I will try trimming it this weekend
