Interior Exterior
Q:
Anyone have any opinions on what to use to clean the exterior trimwork? I've noticed a white residue seems to appear on them after I clean the car (not from soap, I've already checked), and not sure what to clean it with. I've had some luck with cleaners in the past, but most tend to leave a residue.
Just trying to get some opinions.
A:
are you talking about the grills? some say to use mothers back to black or peanut butter..

I've used 303 Protectant on my black body trim everywhere, every time I wash the car. This stuff is amazing, it keeps the black plastic and rubber seals well,... black. It's not cheap and sometimes difficult to find. Usually aerospace or marine stores carry it.

Pretty much anything black (grills, cheese-graters, trim, etc.). Is mothers back to black used for restoring? Don't need restoration really, just to keep it looking black and clean.

I had a LOT of white residue on my vents recently. I finally got around to using Mother's Back to Black and it worked like a charm. Brought it back to how it orginally looked. It's been about 3 weeks and they have not returned so far.

Looks like I'll give Mother's a try. Thanks for the suggestions. 303 sounds good, but I know I can easily get mothers.
Now if I can find an easy way to clean these rims...

+1 for Back to Black. I haven't used it yet on the Elise, but I have used it in a couple of other similar applications (Z06 brake ducts, Civic black plastic rocker panel) with excellent results. I plan on using it on the Elise soon, I've just been too busy driving it to detail it.

Back to Black and Liquid Glass.... I work in the yard and Hilary works on the car.... everything gets detailed around here....

I have heard scary things about Armor-All.
I would like to try the MOTHERS too.

The white streaks may return. I'd try cleaning with this:

And then dyeing them black (looks better) or painting them, as Stan has done.
