HI Guys,
I remember from the early days, someone came up with an easy velcro strap attachment in the boot to hold the softop when stored there.
Search seems to be down, does anyone recall this thread?
Thanks
Chris

I had my mom put some hook velcro on my roof bag. The main problem with it is that it tends to pull up the boot covering when you try to take it out.

Chris, look into a bootie from sector 111. I got one last month and it's a very clever design and has nice place for the softtop.

I have some "double sided" Velcro straps - they were made to hold soccer nets to the frames - one side is the fuzzy side, the other is the hook side. I stick a couple of these together and wrap it around the top bag. Then, with the hook side out, it sticks to the carpet in the boot. It doesn't move around, but is a bit of a pain to get out (which I almost never do).
I think Kiyoshi did something where he put some "tabs" up through the carpet. The bottom is bolted down with the bolts that are beneath the carpet and pad. Then he uses straps to tie the top bag to the tabs/rings.
I plan to make Kiyoshi's system one of these days. Real Soon Now (I've been saying that for a year and a half).

I having a senior moment... I don't recall if I ever wrote up what I did or I just imagined I did...
Pretty much as Tim described, I cut 2 - 1" wide strips from Aluminum flashing material (hardware store/home depot) about 4" long. I folded those in half over a 1" wide "D-Ring" and the riveted (1/8" pop-rivet) to the floor of the boot. I then made a 1" wide slit in the carpet and slipped the "D-Ring" thru the slit of the carpet and then slipped a 1" wide nylon luggage strap thru the "D-ring"

Thanks guys, I'll have to see what I end up doing.

I use a variation of the velcro method originally posted by Steve W. I think this was the thread Chris was looking for

Bio,
Thanks very much, that is what I was originally thinking of. I also kind of like the sector 111 stowage piece as well.
I"d have to change it slightly as the 06 model elises, the carpet runs all the way up the back with cutouts for the taillights.
I"m so glad we've got people here with better memory than me!!

Babak,
How does the Bootie install? Sounds like a good idea, do you have to remove the carpet to install?

The bootie is one of my favorite mods, the car really should have come with something like this. You don't need to remove the carpet or anything. It's sewn out of heavy duty nylon with some fairly stiff padding underneath. It fills the boot really well so you have to kind of fold and squish it to fit it throught through the boot opening. Once it's in the boot it has some velcro hooks that hold it in place but it fits nice and snug. It keeps stuff from slaming into the clam and cracking the paint from the inside. the divders in it also velcro in place and can be folded up if you need to put something larger in the trunk. It's also really handy at track events when everyting needs to come out of the trunk, you just pull it out and then you've already got a place to keep everything that was in the trunk. It has a water resistant bottom, I've set it on some damp grass with no problems. Really a great product:

Thanks pixl,
Just what I needed to know, think I might get this.

FWIW I have an 06 and I elected to pull the carpet out. IIRC there are 3 pieces of carpet and a thick thermal/cushion pad. I took out everything except the carpet against the firewall as it provides something for the bootie's velcro to adhere to as well as a more finished look as the paint is hit or miss in the trunk. I don't know if 06 trunk is a little smaller from the LED's, but my center divider panel has to bow a bit.

It's actually quite clever. No carpet removal needed. It has velcro straps so that it sticks to the velcro and the posterior aspect just stuffs in front of the tail lights. there are two dividers. One sections it horizontally for the top which is essentially under the rear clam lip. The leftover space has a flap that is velcroed at one end so that you fold it out of the way to make a one larger space or divide it into two. The skin is fairly thick cardura and the foam padding is also substantial. I really like having mine.

Have you ever tried storing the soft top behind your seats? If you don't drive with your drivers seat all the way back, it will fit laying between the two seats.

I can't get it behind the passenger seat, at least not inside its bag.

I went ahead and ordered the bootie, looks like good kit. Unfortunately I'm 6'2" so my seat's all the way back.

I created a very simple device to hold the softtop bag in place. I cut down, refolded and taped up a small cardboard box slightly larger than a box of kleenex tissues. I cut this box into a wedge shape, open on top and to the rear. Velcro hook tape is attached to the bottom of the box. I put the bag in the boot all the way to the rear, put a box of tissues in my wedge-shaped box, and then stuck the box to the carpet. To remove the bag, I lift the tissue box out pf the wedge-shaped box and the bag easily slips out of the boot over the wedge. I did this as a temporary solution, but after several months of topless driving, I don't worry about updating this simple solution.

I had made these velcro straps to secure my top in the boot.
.
But got the bootie from my girlfriend for the holidays, and have been using that instead.
