Great idea! I too would like to show off my mighty 1.8L, 190hp Toyota engine and make those ferrari's jealous

I'm just playing... there aren't any clear engine covers probably for that exact reason though, nothing much to show. However, some owners did make their own. Check out this thread for more info:

I would be more than proud to tell people it's a Toyota engine. Toyota and Yamaha together put some serious thoughts into this engine and it's a good one. Very good power to weight and reliability.
Now if Toyota could ust get that first F1 championship under it's belt.

Toyota is a great company, I have nothing against them, but picture this scenario for a second. A beat up celica gts with a ricer bodykit and a fart can pulls up next to you, and the driver, clearly awed by the elise says something like:
"WOW! What an amazing machine! That thing must cost at least 200 grand, what engine does it have? Surely a 600hp v10 or v12?"
What would you tell the kid? "actually, no. We have the same engine!" I would be too embarrassed haha

Someone made one and posted some pics a while back, and someone else on here, I'm not sure who off the top of my head, is having some made up right now. His car is in the shop and he expects to have the pics any day now. Search for it, it should pull up the threads.

That would be Ridgemanron. But he is not making a cover, rather he is making clear glass inserts to replace the plastic inserts.

I'm having my engine covers covered in brushed aluminum at a shop located next to Hass Turbo. I should have them back sometime next week and will be happy to post pictures.
A:
Ridgemanron, that's right. I could picture the avatar but couldn't think of the screenname. Yeah, he's doing the inserts, but that's what the original poster is asking about. That's also what the other guy who posted pictures did, but they weren't shaped like the stock vents. I don't think Ridgemanron's are going to be either. I don't think anyone would want an entire decklid in clear as it would show the trunk as well.
Brushed aluminum? We'll definitely need to see a picture of that.

I would love to see pictures of that.

so... you are just trying to keep heat in the engine bay, right?

But as mentioned before, IMO you're just exposing an aesthetically ho-hum engine bay with a mediocre powered Toyota/Yamaha motor...something I prefer to keep hidden.
A:
I would be too embarrassed haha I wouldn't, I would think it hysterically funny. An example of proper application of good lump mated to a good suspension/chasis.

Thaks guys for all the response. I really like the look of that clear plastic which posted by Dave.
Thanks again

Oh , I thought you were talking about the Fuel Rail cover and Spark Plug Covers

Oh - that makes a LOT more sense. I was trying to figure out why someone would have their decklid covered in aluminum. Even on a ST car it wouldn't seem to make much sense.

The first set of clear acrylic deck-lid sections, that
I commissioned a tool and dye guy to do for me, were
accidently cleaned by someone who wasn't aware that
you must use cloth or paper-type towels that are
specifically for plastic and became cloudy and scratchy
looking thereby requiring them to be re-made. The
heat/pressure process is the difficult part to master,
especially when you realize that the two large louvered
areas have a bend to them. If you don't get them just
right they won't sit flat on the frame type lip surrounding
the open areas. Too much heat and pressure.....or too
little for that matter.....results in an improper bend after
they cool. The large panels will have three air slots on
them and the small ones will have one. The slots will be
'canopy' covered by 1" clear plastic tubing that has been
sliced in half with a 1/8" slit at the base to let air out. The
sides of the canopies will be left un-capped so as to allow
more air to escape from the engine compartment. To secure
them to the 'four-sided' lips that frame each opening I have
settled on two possibilities. One is a totally transparent 1/4"
wide - double side tape - that is about 1/32nd of an inch
thick. I would need to double...or triple up...the layers to get
a bit of a cushion-y effect. The supplier also gave me a
brush-on can of accelerator type clear glue that increases the
sticking power of the tape by 200%. The second possibility is
a heat/cold resistant neoprene type material that is also 1/4"
wide but much thicker at 1/8". This stuff only has stick on one
side but the accelerator glue could also be used. Hopefully, once
I get my car back from the dealer who is to install my new
transmission cable, I'll be able to bring the car for a fitting check
concerning the acrylic panels. P.S. - In addition to the trany
cable being replaced under warranty, so will be the leather boot
over the gear shift which was beginning to shred in some areas.
I am also having them check out my brake system to see if there
is a defect that causes my pedal to drop an inch when I'm stopped
at an intersection waiting for the light to change.
