Clear acrylic engine deck lid covers almost ready.

Q:
Sounds pretty neat. I want to do the same thing but with the entire engine cover(trunk lid). Make the rear trunk lid out of a solid sheet of clear plastic that has been formed into a female copy of the original piece.
Sort of like the engine cover on the F40. Have you checked out the photos from awhile back
by Miami Lotus? He did a remarkable job of securing the
clear acrylic from underneath, after leveling off the inside
'louvered' areas, so that two large windowed areas look
into the painted engine bay. I assume you want to go
further and totally remove the straight up and down center
post section on the deck led, whereas Miami Lotus only
decided to remove the posts going side to side. If however
you are hoping to go still further, I don't think an exact
duplicate of the deck lid in see-through would be wise since
it would also allow viewing into your trunk area.

I was planning to paint the underside of the plasic in the trunk area either black or body color. I think the best way to go though is with a painted Carbon fibre piece(looks stock) and add your clear pieces or the black screens.

Just a little more on the materials: Acrylic is harder and more scratch resistant than a polycarbonate. It is the hard-coated polycarbonate i.e. Lexan which will provide the most scratch resistant surface. Lexan is of course 3M's version, but there are other companies making a hard-coating so durable that is is being used on windshields of utility vehicles that use a standard windshield wiper. Acrylic has proved to be useless in this type of application due to the hazing.
