Sunvisor removeal

Interior Exterior

Q:
I searched, but couldn't find anything.
Before I spend time figuring how to do this, anyone give me some tips first?
Mark
(looks like I even spelled 'removal' wrong...)
A:
Push hard, they slide right off. That's it.
A:
Is that what those things are at the top of the windshield?
A:
It does bring back fond memories of my very first mod -- removing the driver's sun visor. It made a heck of difference!
Slides right off the longish rod in the "ahem" obvious direction.
A:
Just be careful not to hit your mirror as they come off.
And to answer your next question, the posts that remain simply unscrew.

Or not (as they say, your results may vary).
A:
Don't forget to remove the rod.
A:
How do the rods come out?
A:
They screw out. Did it a long time ago. They are a bit balky but they do come out. Looks much better out.

According to post #5, they simply unscrew. According to post #6, some might be tougher than others.
I was lucky, mine came right out.
A:
The drivers side is very hard without bending the bracket. I would like to get the rest of the brackets off.
A:
Ironically, I use mine. I drive west to east in the morning and east to west at night. At this time of the year it's hard. They come in handy.
I suppose everyone doesn't hate them.
A:
I guess I have one of the tougher ones. Did you unscrew yours via your fingers only, no tools?

Tools, for sure. I'm trying to remember how I did mine, it was over a year ago. I think I used small channel locks. Given the limited room to turn, I think it took about a zillion turns.

Yep that's it. One of mine came out by hand after a few turns. The other didn't.

I had trouble geting the rods out so from the advice of another post I put black shrink tubing over the rod and heated it up with a lighter, nice snug fit and you can not notice them now the silver rods are black. This was a much simpler solution at least for me.
A:
What is 'black shrink tubing'?
A:
What is 'black shrink tubing'? You can find it at any hardware store in the eletrical section. Its used to insulate wiring and will shrink when you add heat, it comes in various colours and of course black

what worked for me was a small ratchet wrench with an 8mm deep socket. I used a "brad" (small nail) inside the socket as a wedge. Then apply some tape (painters tape or masking tape) to the windshield header where the socket presses against it (to protect it from any rubbing). This worked beautifully for me BUT someone posted that they ended up bending their post using my method.
As long as you keep the ratchet in light contact with the windshield header it will remain lined up. In this position I can't see how it could bend the post or mount.

I use mine too.
I can't figure out why more people don't find them usefull???
They saved me yesterday driving West at 6PM here in Cali.
