what to use to get the speaker grille out?

Interior Exterior

Q:
what should i use to get the speaker grille out?
i removed the actual radio/cd player easily. but got stuck when i got to the speakers.
i read about using a dental pick - i don't have one of those. that speaker mesh looks very fine - can't think of anything i already have that could go through there. actually, i wouldn't know what to buy either.
is the only way to get the speakers out by getting the meshes out first? and that is done by grabbing on to the mesh with something and just pulling up?
A:
here's what I used, skill tech 4 pc. pick set, $6.99:

insert pick in mesh and pull up, screws for speaker removal (both front and back) are under the mesh so they have to come out first

I used a small watch screwdriver.
A:
The pop up pretty easily.
No need for a special tool, a small "minus" screwdriver will do.
A:
I just used a thumb tack....

My drivers side one came off on its own. Just hit a few bumps while driving and they'll remove themselves.
A:
I put a flat head screwdriver under the edge (of the rim, not the mesh) and with a little pressure, the mesh popped out.
A:
paper clip?

I supose everything mentioned here will get the speaker grills off. I already owned a set of the mechanics picks so that's what I used. I was surprised at how tight they were on and I'm pretty sure I could have damaged them trying to get them out with something else. I required a pretty good tug.

i tried that - in my case the trim dented.

i have a set of precision screwdrivers but none of them seemed small enough. i'll try out some of the things suggested here. thank you.
A:
paper clip?
seemed too big when i thought about it.

Park facing the sun One of mine popped out while I was getting ready to start the car, like toast! Then the frames melted and I couldn't put them back in...now, I have a sunshade...a dental pick works the best.

IMO everybody should have a set of picks in their toolkit ! Amazingly handy. Once you get 'em you'll wonder how you survived without. Available at any hardware store.

That's what I was going to suggest
A:
You could also try to thread some fishing string through it and yank.

I think I see a market for a special "Lotus speaker grill removal tool" It will look very similar to a dental pick, but cost much more. it will do a fantastic job of removing the grills. I'll even paint in yellow and green and provide a Lotus decal with it. Does $19.99 sound fair?

I'd buy one for the low, low price of $199.99. Can I get that in CF ?

Wasn't there a recall for this? I recently had mine serviced and it seemed that this was *problem* was fixed, along with the headlight ring-thing.
