Q:
What is the general consensus on the best front plate mount on the market.
I may have to have one put on for a car meet/gtg coming up on LI where the police are notorious for giving no front plate tickets and other misc tix.
Thx

do a search here. some folks have installed temp units with straps vs drilling...

Check out this one from Blackwatch Racing...one of the better ones I've seen anyway.

I bought the Blackwatch racing mount. The concept is solid but I had to drill a couple of extra holes lower in the bracket as it pushed the clamshell surface so far down that the grill pins wouldn't engage. Seems that there is enough variation in the plastic parts of the Elise that just one set of holes isn't enough for all cars. I sent photos to the people at Blackwatch and they agreed with the above assessment. That was a couple of months ago so maybe the latest versions have additional holes. Easy enough to fix yourself if you have a drill. The picture shows the bracket mounted using the original mounting holes and with the holes I drilled visible below. Picture was taken as a demo for Blackwatch. Bracket works fine now and does not require drilling any holes in my Elise.

I flipped the bracket upside down. Works great.

Thanks guys...I ordered the plate bracket today from blackwatch.
Do either of you have a photo of the entire front of the car? I am curious how it affects the look of the car with the front plate on.
Do you find it to be very stable at high speed and over bumpy roads?
Thanks.

Doesn't that bracket hang pretty low?
I would think it would hit on almost anything.
Perhaps a bit lower, as a warning that you are about to hit...
How has it worked out?

I'm just willing to take whatever tickets I get, which so far in a year have been none. In fact, I haven't even put the back plate on yet. Just leave the sticker in the window and it's still new.

yeah what he said

I've had the Blackwatch mount for sometime. There are several holes to adjust the height of the plate. I adjusted mine roughly at about the same or a tad lower than the lowest bit of the front clam. It's okay so far but you still have to be carefull. The ends of the two screws to mount the license plate or the spot where it could touch on the clamshell should be padded with double sided mounting tape or something becoz it tends to rub on the clam if you have hard enough pressure on the plate. I found out the hard way when a dead raccoon snuck up on me one night (before I had HID). I thought it would clear underneath but I heard a thump. The licence plate mount works great, it has a spring like giveaway but the impact did coz the 2 screws two rub on the clam a bit. I got 2 white dots as the screws go through the starshield and chipped the paint slightly . The original mounting holes works fine with my front grill. I guess it's true about variations on clamshell fit and the second hole for mounting it is a good idea. But thumbs up Robert & Randy for the mount.

Just got the new batch in and they have been re-designed with a second set of holes!

Hey Justin. Bungee-cording it has worked quite well for me. I posts some pics a while back if you want to do a search. If you only want it on there temporarily it should work even better for you. IM me next time you see me.

Thanks man...I think I'm going to try the bracket and see how it fits installed...If I don't like it I'll def try your method.
How are things? There is a large car meet/gtg on LI this weekend of all types of cars if you are free sunday.
A:
My idea.
stock towhook and few brakets from home improvement store...
total $10
i put sponge with double stick tape to the plate and to give a better support.

Here's a link to what rolandchen did.

I have chosen a different method. After being stopped when I first got the car I asked my dealer, Lotus Motorsports of New England, if they had a solution. They had none but the machanic gave me some heavy duty plastic velcro. After being stopped a second time, I decided to use the velcro. I removed the star shield from the plate area and put the velcro onto paint. I mounted it so that the plate is lower that the clam, that way it acts as a warning when I get too close to a curb. As you can see from where I just had to straighten the plate, it works well. No issues with high speed.
