Rear Spoiler

Interior Exterior

Q:
Hi:
I am planning to put the spoiler on my Elise, and need some suggestion. I know that there are a few vendors sell the after market spoiler out there, but never really have a good chance to see a clear picture of them. From your expert opinion, what spoiler do you think look best on the Elise? I really like the spoiler on the Exige.
Thanks
A:
i think she looks fine without a spoiler, but i do like the gut spoiler that sector111 has, it's got a nice understated look.
A:
Is it only for appearance or does performance enter into the equation? Two spoilers- #1 creates decent downforce but is not the best looking. #2 creates virtually no downforce but looks much better. Which do you choose??
A:
Thanks for the response. I did chk Sector111's site, but they do not show the picture on all angel. So I did not really have a good idea how it will look on the car.
Thanks

Here's a selection of pics of Serebo1's car. The GUT comes unpainted white.

Unpainted white...

Thanks for the pic....what do you guys think about the Carbon Fiber which I saw on the ForcedFed 400 ?? To me, it looks kinda toooo big.
My purpose for putting the spoiler is more for the look. I just think it just give the Elise more aggressive look, which I like =)
Thanks
A:
I like the Reverie wing.
A:
I prefer the Ragnorak CF wing similar to the OEM exige. Or even the Forcefed 3D CF spoiler that extends across the rear clam.
A:
The one from Sector 111 looks really nice. I think it's the same one Alan has.
I saw it on their CO Elise and it blew me away.
A:
Ragnorak CF wing (PB Wing) is way too heavy and rest on the engine lid. I would have concerns about the weight of the wing and the additional down force weight on a piece of the body that is not meant for those types of forces.

Don't know what "PB Wing" is....but the Ragnorak CF wing is only 5 lbs.
From their site: "This carbon fiber piece is the ultimate in style and function for your Lotus Elise. This wing weighs in at a scant 5 pounds and provides downforce and terrific looks to your car. Wing comes complete with aluminum mounts, with adjustable rake of attack."

Guys, three major concerns I had before deciding on the Gut wing:
1) Functionality. The Gut wing was developed by a former Lotus engineer and was extensively track tested by an F1 driver.
2) Appearance. This is of course, entirely subjective, but I love the way this thing looks. Painted car color, IMO it looks OEM. Dave Simkin disagrees, but as wrong as he is, we love him anyway.
3) Mounting. This is a big one, and is related to functionality. There is no other non-oem wing that I know of that does not require screwing into the clam. I love this about the Gut. Even better, the "platform" solution to this provides the best application of downforce I've seen. Instead of directing the force to two simple stalks like 99.9% of everything else out there, the Gut system spreads the force over a large area of the clam. Awesome.
A:
^^ I agree with your application points.. and the spoiler looks very clean on your car... one of the best I've seen.

1) Reverie wing was also designed by an engineer. Not sure about testing but I can tell you it works.
2) I didn't like the Reverie in pictures but in the flesh it looks very nice and follows the lines of the Elise.
3) The Reverie mounts to the strongest part of the clam so it distributes the weight very effectively.
Basically, I used the same criteria as you did. I'd pick either the Reverie or the Gut. I already had the Reverie front spoiler so stuck with them. If I were starting from scratch, I'd probably go with the Gut purely because I like the looks better (all other criteria appear to be equal).

I agree with what you're saying. The only only clear advantage to the Gut that I can see is that again, no screwing into the clam.

oops, i missed that in your criteria. i didn't care about the drilling into the clam so either is a good choice for me. sounds like the Gut is for you. Looks like a nice setup.

Thanks Pete. Looks like we both ended up with nice choices. Love the look of the Reverie as well. Hope to see it in person at WCLM!!!
