New Shift Light

Interior Exterior

Q:
Crazy thought...
Remove cluster from car. Open up cluster. Remove backlight bulb associated with the central lotus logo. Wire up a brighter bulb/LED connected to shift light.
That way the light has a much larger area and you can play around with putting in a brighter source as well. And it helps to keep the Lotus logo firmly planted in your subconscious.
Ultimately, I'd like to use the space between the gauges for a remote V1 display, but that's another crazy thought entirely.

Very interesting! That's a really cool idea

If you want an aftermarket unit, SPA does a standalone with the optional LED module in the eyeport of your helmet.

Cool thanks. That would be good for my bike too.

replace the shift light with a red diode laser aimed at the eyes of the driver. that will be plenty bright enough there is NO WAY you would miss it. at least not the first time

here is a clip of the rx-8 with the beep

fast forward to 2:25. the camera microphone can pick it up well. even over the road noise, and an engine screaming at 8k+rpms. i really never realized how much of a useful tool it is untill i drove audis (a4/s4) and a cobalt SS.
PS-Just so everyone knows, never buy a Cobalt. It plain sucks. and I realized this the other day. Despite having an Ecotec, It needs a supercharger to make 205 hp.

I thought the spa shift lights might be a good idea, but not look very good, I was wondering if the leds could be mounted on the top of the instrument cluster so they reflect in the window, sort of a cheap heads up display - green light above 6000, yellow light - get ready to shift, red light - shift already. Any thoughts?

You figure out how to tie them into the ECU and I'm in.

No, the female shift voice would say:
"Faster, faster....harder, harder.......Oh no, not so hard.....back out, back out....oh yeah, that's good, VERY good....."

if someone lists out the shifting patterns needed i'll map out a circuit.

pity that lotus doesn't allow ecu tuning because the stock ecu is already capable of running multiple shift lights,.

as far as i know, everything you'd need could be factored from rpm & speed.

i'm still waiting on the base board i want to use for these kind of projects, its supposed to ship this month but i haven't seen any updates yet.

i also found a CAN based multifunction gauge that might be adapted for our cars, seeing what the manufacturer says.

I was thinking about this thread last night, and a google search found the exact product you're talking about.
According to the websites FAQs, this can would work the Elise/Exige
The standard Shift Beeper will work on any 4-cylinder engine that has a digital tachometer signal. Generally any car with electronic fuel injection and an ECM or ECU will provide a digital tach signal, so that covers a lot of cars.
Video of S2000 on track with top down. Beeps are very clear.

Hi Guys,
If any of you are interested - was thinking of doing a group buy for you lot in USA of the Ecliptech Shift light.
I'm the New Zealand distributor, but thinking of setting up a group buy link so you can get a group buy discount and then ship a bunch of them up to a common address to then be divided up and shipped on.....or something similar ??
Bang for buck these shift lghts are the best for features and easy installation. Check the website out for more details - www.ecliptech.com.au
Mines the red S1 Elise
If your keen post back on here or send me an email on the address on the site.
Cheers Dean

Dean, your installation guide does not show a wiring diagram for the Toyota Elise. Will this light work with our cars? Where are the ignition and tach feeds coming from? The instrument cluster or the ECU or ???.

A gb sounds good.

This may be too simple, but...
You must know when you are getting close to the limit. That little red light is not hard to see in peripheral vision when you are expecting it. The engine is screaming, you see a tiny bit of red somewhere in the cockpit....boom! upshift!
Light's not visible, and the difference in sound between 7500 and 8200 is pretty hard to decipher when you're concentrating on other things. The deal with Elise is that she just lights up the powerband and blasts through the ceiling so fast that hitting the rev limiter is real easy. Audible signal - forget about it! Little red light on the A pillar - OK - but, again, it just happens too quickly. My vote is either get intuitively in synch or get the electric shock dog collar - brilliant idea
