Track seats

Q:
Nope, I just made templates to place them where I needed for my torso, got a drill and a coping saw and have at it. It takes a leap of faith. A dremel to fine tune things helps too. It took some time but it was the best option for me.
Nice did it come with instructions?

I love those seats but I belive they are $2,000 bucks a piece.
They're Exige seats.
$1550 each - any color combo of leather and or alcantara.

That's acutally not a bad price considering a bare-bones CF ReVerie seat is $1,400 apiece.

I bought one of the Sparco Rev seats which have been modified to fit the Elise. It comes with custom aluminum side mounts. It hold your legs and hips perfectly. Unfortunately for me, it's just too small for anyone taller than 5'8" or so. I'm about 5"9" and the seat back will just fit if I remove the seat cushion, but the harness holes are just a little too low. So, it's for sale at what I paid, $400. plus shipping. It's a much better deal if you can pick it up because shipping was $150. from Conn. to Pa. Please email me at terry@lefco.net if you are interested.

I'm surprised more people don't have the same problem. Seats and inserts really need to be custom for each person. I spent a ton of time making measurments of my torso in the seat to get the inserts just right. The bar has to be the right height as well. Almost everything needs to be custom.

Great job Eyelise, where can one pick up those Corbeau inserts?
A:
Wow, I hope you're shorter than me, otherwise your shoulder straps are going to be pretty uncomfortable when they're snugged up tight.
Here is a pic. of my seats with inserts.

I have basically the same thing in my Reverie carbon seat -- the holes are bout the same height -- and I'm 6'4". It gets a bit uncomfortable after awhile with the straps really cinched down -- but no worries, that's what pads are for...
But I would have thought the same thing... until I tried it.
Cheers

I've sat in a Reverie. The slots are higher up than that.
But to each his own...

They're Exige seats.
$1550 each - any color combo of leather and or alcantara. It seems odd that the Exige seat doesn't include a slot for a submarine belt since the car is designed for track use.

The problem with the height of the harness holes is not just comfort. If you hit something hard, you don't want spinal compression, and that's what will happen if the belts are too low and wrap around your shoulders.
A:
I'm 5"10" and not too long in the torso. The majority of the slots are above the shoulders. I believe it will be fine. I'm most concerned with the spinal compression issue. FYI, the harness bar should also be about even with the top of the shoulders. Scroth will allow 10 degress below but that is it. As it turns out the BWR bar sits slightly high at 5-10 degrees above my shoulder level. I'll be correcting that with seat rail shims. I've given my harness set-up more thought than all other mods combined.

has anyone heard of Kirkey racing seats? It seems like they have a few model that will fit the Elise. I'm a new Elise owner who's also looking for seats. My knowledge about seats is limited at best, so please pardon me if my suggestion turn out to be a bad one.

Eyelise,
I have the Corbeau slots and plan to install them myself. Any more detail on issues you encountered?
Did you have to cut into the thicker part of the seat in the center?
How did you secure the leather into the slots? Did you glue the two pieces of the slots together?
Did you cut the back cover, or work under it?

www.kirkeyracing.com I have used a krkey seat in my race car for several seasons. They are light, inexpensive and they hold you in place very well. The down side with them (at least the ones my freinds and I have used) is they are very wrapped around you. And IMHO would make ingress and egress even more difficult than it already is.
A:
I just barely cut into the thicker part. I hot glued the leather and then Gorilla glued the inserts. I did cut the back cloth and hot glued it into place and then put the inserts over. It all looked really nice when done.
Make templates and use a coping saw to cut the template. Use a dremel with grinding bit for fine tuning. BTW, Don't forget to user the wider of the two halfs to make the template. I made that mistake and then had to grind a lot on the first one.

I have Ultrashield seats in my Ultralite Seven. They are similar to the Kirkey seats. Available in 1/2 inch width increments and several levels of wrap or support. One of the ralley seats in a 16.5 or 17" should fit. The lightweight model would probably save some weight. It seems the only seats lighter than stock that I have seen used are the Reveries which do not seem too comfy.

The Ultrashield seats look very interesting, and they're affordable. What do you think of the Spec Miata seats? They say it installs easily into vehicles (not just Miatas) with limited space.

Hey there MikeAR303... I see you have the 2 different Safecraft belts from Sector111. I'm debating between the two myself... any thoughts on the differences between the two? Is it worth the additional $200 to get the harness with the HANS capability?
Any input would be appreciated as I'm going to be pulling the trigger on 1 of them in the next couple of days.
