Q:
Well, I talked to my ass and we agreed that maybe if the '06 Elise seat was that much better, it might be a good upgrade.
It costs $1287. Plus shipping.
My ass still wants it but the brain says no.
Anybody sat in both an '05 and an '06?
A:
I don't think it's supposed to do anything for your ass. Rather, the improvement is felt in the back.
A:
Gee I wonder how much the Exige seat would be
A:
Is that the price for one seat or two? Cloth or cow?

One seat. Black leather.
And for the record, the outside of my hips are the problem. The titanium side bolsters are torture unless I keep my knees straight up. And at 6'3" that doesn't happen. A bit more elevation from the pad on the bottom would get me off the bolsters.

.. fyi here is the link to the article on the Probax seats:

Can we just buy the padding and install it ourselves? I haven’t seen an 06 seat in person, but the stitching looks the same to me.
A:
Based on my limited experience with what can be done with motorcycle seats, I believe that a good auto or bike upholstery shop can get you to a better place with custom padding than you'll get from the '06 seats. And cheaper too.
A:
I've sat in them both and could not tell any difference. The Probax foam probably has more impact after sitting in it for a longer while (?). The seat shell is the same and the side bolsters don't appear to have changed at all, just the "insert" part of the seat back and bottom.

a few weeks ago, i drove 4 hours to my nearest lotus dealer to get the first service done. when i got there, i immediately hopped in an '06 that they had in the showroom and i could tell a big difference in the seats. the bottom felt like it had alot more cushion in it. is it worth 1200 bucks? nope, but it is better. i like andy and troy's idea about the custom work done an '05 seat. i'm sure it would be muuuuch cheaper...

One may be surprised...my wife uses a small pillow under her on long trips for exactly the reason the OP wants a bit more bolstering under him. It works really well. I use a similar small pillow to give a bit more lumbar support as well. So, if you look in our Elise right now, you'll see two small white pillows...quite a bit easier and cheeper solution than new seats...
A:
Google Obus Forme for seat cushions. My wife uses one in the TT for long trips. Greatly helps with a bad hamstring she has.
I also notice a huge improvement in comfort if I take my wallet out of my back pocket. Don't laugh, it makes a disproportionate difference. As in, the difference between a very nice seat and uncomfortable side bolsters.

In the year since I got my Elise, I've lost my wallet more times than in the previous ten years combined. I've gotten used to taking my wallet out every time I sit down now and so I've left it in all sorts of crazy places.
I may make a trip up to the upholstery place here that's famous for doing custom motorcycle seats. Just to check things out, you know. They have several different types of foam and they have you come in for test-fitting where they add, subtract and sculpt the foam until you have exactly the shape you want. Then they cover it in ostrich skin. Well, I mean that's an option at least.

Exactly what I would have typed. Minus the four hour drive.

Ostrich skin is great stuff. Very durable.

I may try some very thick natural sheepskin inserts in the center of the seats. Not real sure as I may have to hang dice from the mirror afterwards.
