Lumbar Support

Interior Exterior

Q:
I have had my car for 4 months and 4000 miles now and love it. My biggest complaint is the lumbar support seems to be too high on my back, on both seats. Has anyone tried to move the lumbar support? Or can anyone define where the lumbar support should be?
A:
Should be, as in where the lumbar vertebrae are?

A:
Sounds right to me, but where is that? I am guessing the vertrebrae just above the hip bone.
My lumbar support seems to be several vertrebrae above that.
A:
Sorry, I missed your link. My support seems to be about where lumbar #1 is. Is that correct, or should it be lower to fill the curve?
A:
It's not hard to take the seat apart a bit to fiddle around with the padding and lumbar support. By all means go for it.

It is a bit too high for me as well. I am looking forward to your detailed posts on how to lower the support without much work and without damaging the seat in any way. Good Luck!
A:
I keep mine deflated all the time.... feels fine on my back.

I've been out in the garage looking at the seat. The center padded section has a little play at the top, but doesn't seem to want to come loose. I think I've read that everything is glued in. Any hints? Stan?
A:
Hits me to high too. I ordered a foam pad developed (from what I've been told) by NASA for the astronauts. I'm hoping that it not only gives me a little more padding, but also raises me up so the bladder hits in a better place. I'll let you guys know how it works.
A:
knucklehead, on my last trip, I tried a folded towel under my butt to raise me a bit. Seemed to be a step in the right direction, though the 1/2 inch or so was not enough. The lumbar support was better and I had better visibility.
I think an inch or an inch and a half might do the trick.
A:
I had my wife make me a cushion that raises me enough that the lumbar support hits me in the right place, but the cushion is not as stable as the seat, so I am still looking for other options. I currently don't use the cushion on short drives.
I have a call into my dealer about the 2006 seats. I asked several questions, and they are supposed to get back with me, but haven't yet. Any opinions on the 2006 seats vs. the 2005 seats.
The service writer had taken a 2005 seat apart for something else. He seemed to think moving the lumbar support bladder would be pretty easy if you were careful not to tear it. That will be my next step if the upgrade to 2006 seats doesn't work out.

I like the 2006 better, I found them to be more comfortable
I thought that the 2005 seats were also very good just not as good...

I went to SVAG and the 06 I drove did not have the lumbar support pump. They said I could exchange it for a seat which did have it. Now I'm wondering, does that mean I'd get an 05 seat? Does the 06 seat have that as an option? I didn't see it on the options list. This was a touring pack car.

A:
06 seats do not have a lumbar support and have little tags that say "probax" on them. SVAG could probably make a decent profit by swapping out the seats and then selling the 06 seats separately
A:
All this reminds me of a well-known dialogue from a court transcript:
Q. Doctor, did you say he was shot in the woods?
A. No, I said he was shot in the lumbar region.
