Interior Exterior
Q:
Hi Guys,
I've been meaning to post this for a while. As we all know the Elise is perfectly comfortable for daily use, but there's just no good storage within reach of the driver for things like CDs, tire pressure guage, change, maps, etc. Last fall before leaving for our trip to The Dragon I found this Case Logic organizer from their new automotive line at Target: http://www.caselogic.com/door_pocket...?modelid=57177
It fits perfectly between the seat and the frame rail and doesn't get in the way of sliding the seat when getting in and out of the car. Probably the best $9 I've spent on the Elise from a day-to-day standpoint.
I should note that I don't have the touring pack so I don't know if the extra carpet in that area would make it a tighter fit.
Enjoy,
--Josh

Good find

I'd like to find a cylinder shaped bag (approximately 1' long by 5" in diameter) to fit in the shelf in front of the passenger. Let me know if anyone has seen something like this.

I think one of these is what your looking for. I thought about ordering one but haven't yet. It comes in black as well:

That was my thought exactly. I tried one of those wine caddy things. It was tantalizingly close, but too long.
After looking at a few, I think the answer may be a nice leather case for a telephoto lens. Haven't found the right one yet, but will let everyone know if I succeed.

Why not buy a pen bag? Like the ones we used to have in grade school, they make faux leather ones dirt cheap.

Here's another shelf organizer idea. While searching for the Tube locally, I ran into this: Outdoor Research "Padded Cell #5". It's the old style, only available in silver. 13"x4"x4". The new 2006 models are different shapes altogether, yet have the same name... if you buy online, make sure you have a photo. It runs $22-25. It fits snugly, is padded, and has an interior mesh section. I think the optimum dimensions may be around 12.5"x3"x3". I'm still trying it out. Here are some pics. (No, I don't keep a can of Scotchgard in the car, it's to provide scale. Although I'm considering a raquetball.)

Thanks JnC - that solution rocks (and even matches)!

Sounds like you're committed to a padded cell.
I don't know what to think of the zipper though. I thought it might scratch, but the end panel is plastic.

Here's what I've got stuffed in between the sill and the drivers seat. This is for any of the Miatateers out there. Is Atlantic Design still around? It's sad when you recycle stuff from two sports cars ago.

Definitely! I'm a bit concerned about the zippers but there's bound to be a simple solution for it - or a close alternative that has a flap(?) covering the zipper.

Maybe it's overkill, but guess you could dip it in that silicone rubber dip liquid that used to coat tool handles.

I think this will work well on the glove shelf.... hard to go wrong for $15.

The 5" depth of that bag might be a problem. The silver bag above is 4" deep and already overhangs.

Mick I think you can find something like that at a place that sells camping or white water rafting gear. Maybe REI? I need to stop by and get some waterproof gear if I'm ever to put anything in my trunk. lol. Maybe I'll look around for you.

I think the way the shelf is angled down it won't be a problem... I'll let you know when it gets here.

Here's a follow up to my post about the eaglecreek "cube". I bought one in black and it fits in the dash shelf almost perfectly. It's a little smaller than the OR sliver bag. here's some photo's of it in place:

Closer still

I think it fits the space pretty well, I don't love the look and wouldn't leave it in the dash all the time. But for a trip where you need some extra storage I think it will work well.

I dunno. I don't think these things really "organize" anything. Actually it probably makes it harder to retrieve stuff when you want it although I suppose it does hide what you've got, and makes it easier if you want to take it all out when you leave the car.
I keep maps, papers, windex wipes, a pen, tire gauge, etc. in there and I kind of like the "functional" look. If you keep it pretty full the stuff doesn't really shift around much.
