Interior Exterior
Q:
I know it's been discussed before, but I'll be darned if I can find where. What's the best product for cleaning the black trim, and where do I find it? Mainly the exterior (all cars) that have the stupid spots from lazy waxing.
A:
Plexus- Get it at motorcycle shops.

Make sure to wear your Hell's Angels leather jacket. Not the one with all the cuts and blood stains, but the other one.

I tried the Plexus, and was less than thrilled. It didn't seem to do anything.

If the plastic is textured, use a soft toothbrush to loosen the wax. I have also used the Meguire's All purpose cleaner at a 4:1 mixture with some good results on my Jeep.

Ok, second time I've read peanut butter. I take it you're serious? Or is this just to encourage the mice to move in?
Ridgeman - how about if I ditch the leather and trot in with the mink? The leather is in storage. No wait - can't fit in the drivers seat with fur on...

Heidi - I think you get a discount if you show them a tattoo. Depending on where it's located, dictates the amount of the discount.

I have tried peanut butter and and peanut oil and it DID NOT WORK, at least for me! What does work very well and is inexpensive is 3M Adhesive and Wax Remover, it is around $3 at Pep Boys or Wal Mart.

Yea, but how bad is it on paint? Just in case to gets on a painted surface.
A:
Peanut oil should be just fine, you'll just need to wipe it off if you can. Seems like a non-corosive grease to me.
If you mean the 3M stuff, it will remove any wax you have on the surface, and a tiny bit on the paint shouldn't hurt anything.

Ridgeman, you met me. If I start peeling off layers they may raise the price...
No tatoos though. Sigh.

Thanks all! Haven't actually done a wax yet, so I haven't gotten anything on the black - I'll be very careful. I do have some wax on the black on the Audi. I got some Mothers, I'll try that. I wonder - could I use black shoe polish (paste kind) to cover any mishaps?

Has anyone gotten a white haze on black plastic trim from Zaino?? I know it's supposed to be impossible, but my G35 has never ever seen a non-Zaino product, and I'm finding grey/white wax-like haze on some of the plastic trim corner pieces, where it looks like I smeared it on as overage. This has me puzzled. It's just recently become apparent, after 12 months of Zaino and about as many coats.
With all the black trimwork on the Elise, I would hate to see this happen later.
Maybe the dealer put some wax on long ago? It would be surprising to see it show up now.

Heidi: One site member claims to not have had good results with Plexus but I
find it cleans and protects plastic quite well. Doesn't leave a shine which may be what he was looking for. You might also want to try Lysol All Purpose Cleaner. When I got Plexus on my windshield, the Lysol 'All Purpose' was the only thing that was able to get it off with some repeated applications.

I have used Back to Black from Mothers on all my Esprits, and now on my Elise, it works excellent!
You can buy it at any good auto parts store.

I second the Back to Black. I just used it again this weekend on my Elise, and the trim looks new again. I REALLY want mesh, though. Shinoo?
