Removing wax from black trim

Interior Exterior

Q:
I hope to paint all my grillwork and avoid these wax issues down the road. And sense people here have had good luck with Plexus, I will certainly try a 3rd time in warm conditions and hope for better results.

I saw this in my latest catalog edition. While I have no experience with this particular product, Griot's has provided good stuff in the past. Let us know if you buy/try it.

There are many good threads here for detailing the black plastic grillwork. Some folks recommend painting the grills, others use wax remover. Today I tried Mothers Back to Black for the first time on my Elise. It worked very well and fast.
I applied it with a household sponge. Cut a 1-inch strip from the sponge narrow enough to get into the grillwork. Use the sponge to apply the Back to Black in the front, radiator cover, sides, engine cover, etc. The sponge holds up well so you do not get much product on the paint/wax.
A:
does back to black use any sort of oil?
A:
According to the National Library of Medicine product database it contains morpholine and butyl acetate. Probably not best stored in the baby's room.

Heidi: One site member claims to not have had good results with Plexus but I
find it cleans and protects plastic quite well. Doesn't leave a shine which may be what he was looking for. You might also want to try Lysol All Purpose Cleaner. When I got Plexus on my windshield, the Lysol 'All Purpose' was the only thing that was able to get it off with some repeated applications.
I'd be careful with the Lysol stuff. I had a bottle leak on my leather seats in my BMW and it ate the finish off. It cost me about $100 to get the damage repaired. Not cool!

I used Four Star Ultimate Paint Cleanser. It removes the residue. Products like peanut butter simply hide the wax with oils. Dressings will hide and, well, dress.
Think about products that remove wax from your paint, and you are moving in the right direction. I would be careful with an all-purpose-cleaner. You could pull the color from the plastic.
