Q:
Did a search but could not find any info...
I am noticing on certains sections of the star shield is turning a slight yellow color. It is making the strips of ss stand out against the non ss part of the car. Any advice on what causes this. If SS replaces the yellowed pieces, what stop the yellowing from happening again?

Nothing. Just them claiming the new improved film doesn't yellow! But the film manufactures claim that every time, as I'm sure they did on your film that yellowed. Mine hasn't yet, and I'm sure I'll get a couple years out of it. And of course it "doesn't yellow" but I'm not going to be suprised when it does. I've taken some rock hits and such so it's made the ultimate sacrafice a few times. I'm sure by the time it yellows, I'll be ready for $750 paint protection film round two. Still looks a hell of a lot better than a big black car bra though.

Just spoke to South Bay.. Our Star Shields come with a 5 year warranty, and part of that coverage is discolorations... They are finding out the info on how to get these pieces replaced through the warranty.

I knew there was a good reason for buying a SY car... Anyway, please post the outcome of the warranty claim.

Ok so Star Shield came out last week to fix the yellowing panels. They replaced the two rear clam lower panels, and also replaced the front hood panel. The problem is the SS on the front hood, now has a hole cut around the lotus badge. I now have 3/4 of an inch of exposed paint around the front lotus badge. I called lotus of South Bay and told them to order me a front badge as i wanted the original SS look back. The 3m dealer agreed to pay for the badge and re-install the front hood panel ... So far great service, but wont say for sure until they come out and re-do it correclty with the badge over the SS instaed of cut around. The 3m dealer should have informed me that the front would be slightly different, as now they have to re-install the fron SS again. Heres the pict i sent SS to show them how yellow the panels got. By the way the SS guys told me i am getting a newer designed SS which should have no Yellowing.

I can't tell if mine is yellowing, cause my car is SY, but the edges of some pieces have gathered dirt under them and so now I have a black outline on some of the edges, which looks pretty nasty.

The blackened edge thing is just dirt and some manual labor can deal with that. Saffron yellow shows yellowing just fine, it looks like the film has darkened or taken on a darker tint. My film yellowed, I'll see if I can find a picture.
(Scroll...& some show the black painted grills)

A soft toothbrush works well to remove wax and edge debris, but you need to be careful that you don't encourage the edge to release more than it has. Overtime, the edges of these types of coatings become very brittle and roll up a bit, usually after the warranty expires of course. But this seems to be the case with my car without a garage. The other garaged car still looks new... 6 y.o. 3M coating.

In the So Cal region if you need warranty repairs to your star shield call:
Monique @ 626-813-0299 also they will need a picture for proof before coming out, and your vin number.
They will come out to you to fix it. Just remember if its the front hood panel you need to go out and buy a new badge, and let them know you dont want the pre- cut hood hole for the badge. You want the badge over the Star Shield....
