Car wash De-Ionized water treatment system

Interior Exterior

Q:
Just wanted to get a feel to see how many of us Lotus owners would be willing to try a group buy of the CR Spotless DI-100MW. It is a filter for your car washing water hose that removes the minerals from the water. Thus allowing it to dry spot free. I work for NHRA and have no affiliation with CRSpotless.
Have been looking for a home system for a deceit price. This one almost fits the bill if it was only closer to 100-150 bucks. The competition is the Mr. Clean in line filter which I would not feel to be as good at removing minerals from the water.
Check it out at: http://www.crspotless.com/index.php?...ategory_id%3D3
It retails for $189.00.
I plan on using it with a pressure washer and a high pressure hose reel. Check the hose reel out at: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=92095
I would use the pressure washer on a low pressure setting for most of the car but it would allow me the flexibility to clean under wheel wells with more than just garden hose pressure. I might want to put a valve to bypass the DI water system so I could rinse down the driveway and such without wasting the DI water filters.
I already sent an email to CRSpotless regarding a group buy. Will wait and see how many of us would be interested.

I use the large CR Spotless on all my cars. It works well, I recommend it.

I finish a wash with a gallon of distilled water that I pick up at the grocery store. Cost a little over a dollar.

Distilled water (off brand) at my local grocery store is $0.69. It took me 3 gallons to do a proper rinse. I used a small pressure pump garden sprayer.

Hey Chris,
Was that you at Home Depot today off of Scripps Poway Pkway?
I was there briefly to pick up some 3M Tape.

Yup - getting paint supplies, including 3M masking tape, but to actually be used for painting.

Sorry I missed you both times today!

I get by with 1 gallon and a silicone rubber detailing squeegee. But the point is that at a buck a wash it will take 180 washes to break even. However, you need to buy additional filter inserts for the deionizer at some additional cost. On the other side, having the water come out of a hose and not have to go to the store to pick it up is worth something.
In any event, the car looks better when you finish with water that is mineral free!

I second that -- works great and very convenient.

Sounds like a good investment to me. Mr Clean is is a good product but inevitably I still have to fight some water spots when It's all said and done. This would be worth a hundred bucks or so. Count me in.

John@CRSpotless mentioned to me that there's a 5% discount for Club111 members. Should help with the shipping. Also, if 10 people want to do a group buy, then he'll give 10%.
Regardless, it's a huge timesaver, which is also money saver.

I'm in

I never heard back from them and I started this thread and now I already bought one. Gees.
A:
I'm in, but would like to get it pretty soon. Thanks
A:
I'll join the group buy and hold off if it will help you guys.
John also mentioned that he would ship all 10 units to the same location. If they are coming out of San Diego then I can go pick them up to save the shipping costs to me.
Should I start another thread? Not sure we will get 10, but it's possible.

I'm in for the group buy. Would the GB discount apply to the DI300 high output rolling system and replacement cartridges too?
A:
I might be in on this, at least after holiday shopping is over.

Don't see why not, but I can verify with John.

Shipped to the same location almost negates the group buy and the cost of the filters is pretty steep.
.70c per gallon of distilled water
$1.80 per gallon of filtered water for the first 100 gallons. ($180 for the unit and not including install costs/shipping)
Then .32c per gallon if you purchase the 8 filter value pack.
So you essentially have to use ~385 gallons before you break even if you purchase 1 gallon jugs of distilled water. Let's assume that you use 3 gallons each time you wash your car. So in 128 washes you will break even. Let's also assume you wash your car once every two weeks. Break even is then at nearly 5 years away.
Anyway, form your own opinion, but I think I'll just stick to distilled water and I purchase it in 5 gallon jugs which reduces the cost to .63c per/g.
