Powder coated fuel door

Interior Exterior

Q:
Received my powder coated fuel door from Lotus of Greenwich today. Kudos to Mark Starr for some great customer service, and thanks to all who recommended them. IMO it's the best $150 I've spent on the car. They did an outstanding job on the finish (Matte/Black). They generally keep a finished one on hand to swap, so mine was back in 4 days. Cost was $150 shipped for DIY installation, which is a snap. Just use a 3mm hex to remove the exterior bolts. The nylon lock nuts fit into a channel in the rear, so no need to hold with pliers. However, you need to stick your finger behind each one, as the nut will fall down into the car. Of course, I let one drop and had to loosen part of the diffuser to recover It's also easier if you remove the fuel cap to get your finger behind each nut. Then send the entire assy to them intact...don't remove the spring, rubber stop, etc. I left the bolt heads silver to complement the SSRs finish.

Oh, Powder Coat. From the subject line, I was thinking that I don't want any kind of Power coating my fuel door. Especially not while I'm refueling.
It looks great. Especially with the SY.

IMHO you could have just the lid coated and left the aluminum ring. That way it would match the wheel design. Although I realize it would take more than 4 days. Thx for the info... it's going in the bookmarks.

Thats exactly what Im doing, except I will cover the lid with CF covering to match the diffuser and wing.

I wonder if an engine manifold type of paint would stick well? I've painted some wheels with it and it was tough. That would cost me about $7. Looks great by the way!

I actually like the look of aluminum/silver wheels and aluminum bits on the car. I don't understand the current trend of making wheels look like they're covered with brake dust. And why cover the pretty aluminum with black?!?
carbon fiber i understand!
of course, to each his own and i can appreciate someone personalizing their car.
i can't criticize fashion. after all, my elise is SY with red interior! ha!
