Q:
This is much more minor than the title suggests but here goes. Ordered a new E-brake handle and indicator stalks package from elise parts. To make a long story short I can't get the damned E-brake button to unscrew, it turns but nothing happens. The directions say that it's supposed to unscrew but they also say that the original E-brake handle is plastic, which, on american elises, is not true.I realize now that it was not smart to assume that there would be no difference between the UK and the American E-brake buttons. Who'd a thunk it Does anyone know if the button unscrews? I sure don't want to brake ( haha bad pun) it trying to find out. Thanks from a frustrated 0o7

There are two small allen screws on the bottom that definitely unscrew if you have the right size allen wrench. Be careful not to strip it.

A:
And after you unscrew the allen set screws, the actual e-brake handle slides off freely, it isn't threaded.

Why do you have to remove the button?

Is he talking about the ebrake handle or button? He says button... but I assume you're right and he means handle...
If the button is your query, do what SAElise is saying, and you'll note that the button is part of the handle assembly itself and isn't practical to replace.
Cheers.
A:
Oh sorry, misread...thought you were installing a boot, not a replacement handle.
A:
Why do you have to remove the button? The kit comes with a real nifty shiny aluminum one
A:
i beleive he is refering the the button unscrewing and not the two little screws for the sleeve. afaik our ebrake buttons aren't removeable.

Cheers. That's what I was afraid of but the new one would look so cool I'd hate to waste it.

Thanks for all the speedy feedback. Is this the end of the line as far as the E-brake button replacement goes?

If you are replacing the stalks, you are willing to undergo serious modification (I understand you have to hacksaw off the old ones). If there is a will, there is a way (I just don't know what it is).

You could paint it
Or...
You could remove the button but then parking might prove a bother...

Yeah that whole function before form thing gets in the way sometimes . Thanks alot for the help. I was able to fit the new handle ok with the original black button. Only mildly dissapointing, looks pretty cool though. It's the little things that make me happy!

Maybe a silly question: will the shiny aluminum button slip over the old black one? If its solid, perhaps a very careful dremeling (is that a verb?) of the plastic button and gluing the aluminum one on top of what's left...There's got to be way!

Good idea, but I don't think it's possible with the existing hardware. Thanks
