Q:
I do not use my alarm and lock the doors with my key. Is there anyway to unlock the passenger door from inside the car (Without getting out, walking around and unlocking with a key)? If not, is there any way to lock the door so that you can unlock it from the inside (other than using the alarm).
Am I missing something? Thanks for any help.
A:
I don't think there's a way. Why not use the remote power locks? The microwave sensor can be turned off.

I know it's petty but I really don't like carrying around the fobs, and I have to press the button 2-3 times from within 1 foot to get them to work. I just find it alot easier to unlock the door with the key.
A:
Just use the power lock button on the center console.

That doesn't seem to work if you have locked the door with the key.

This is true there are two locking mechanisms on the Elise. The key is separate from the electric lock.
I wonder if the '06 Elise changed any of this.
There is a story about Kenny Bernstein the former Budweiser dragster driver now team owner. Who locked the door with the key and had to call the dealer to figure out how to unlock the door as the fob did not work. He no longer has the car wonder if this incident as well as the dealer losing his keys when the limo dropped him off to pick it up from routine service. That must have pissed him off!

Me too, I never use the alarm. I think that the door can be opened using the latch from inside. The key only locks the push button from being pushed.

Thanks; I'll have to try that.

Yes, the only thing the key does is disconnect the outside push button from the mechanism. You should still be able to open all the doors from the inside.

how do you 'enable' the engine without the fob? doesn't it passively disable regardless of whether the alarm is armed or not w/in a few minutes of the car being cut off?
i never arm the alarm in my garage, but i have to press the big button on the fob everytime i get in to 'enable' the engine.

I disabled the passive immobilization. There was a thread awhile back explaining how to do this, I think by Tyger. One of the best mods so far.
EDIT: Here it is

Isn't that the truth. What's up with that? My 4Runner can be unlocked from inside my house, farthest room from the driveway on the second floor!
Edit: It's not a problem for me, I would just rather be able to do it 25 feet away. At first I was concerned my battery was near dead. Maybe other wondered this too.

The antenna for the alarm apparently is "hidden" by the aluminum chassis which cuts down the range.
Besides, if you disarmed the alarm for far away, you'd just have to do it again to disarm the immobilizer. It works just fine for me to just walk up to the door, press the fob button, and open the door. I can then get in the car and start it up before the immobilizer re-arms. It's certainly not a problem for me...

Ain't it the truth. I'd love to find a way to strip the alarm completely out of the vehicle. But I'm afraid to start messing around with it beings how integrated it is with the electrical system.

AND it's one of the few "mods" that won't cost you a dime!

I leave the alarm off when it is in the garage, if the alarm is on when the garage door opens with the top off the alarm will go off. I have not tried it with the top on. Once in the Elise I hit the fob button, put in he key and press the start button and off I go, if while in the Elise I will us the rocker switch to lock and unlock the door. If I leave it somewhere like shopping at Sam's Club for really big things I will press fob to lock and arm the alarm and again to unlock and off I go. I guess I just do not use the key in the door, of the Elise or my MINI. Hay let call it keyless entry.
