New Elise Owner! First post here

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Hi all,

Bought a 2006 Elise (Orange!) a couple days ago from Lotus of Durham - loving it! Bought it from John - I enjoyed working with John - would recommend him to those looking to buy. Not pushy, very informative!

Haven't had a chance to really stretch it out for a couple hours yet - this weekend's going to be a roadtrip to somewhere far away (don't even know where, don't care!) Gotta get those 1,000 miles in so I can start pushing it more!

I'm not a gearhead, finster or racer - I have never changed oil, have never modded or tweaked a car, and have never been on a track. I just had to have it!

Well, perhaps I'm a racer at heart - not for top speed, but for performance. Which is why I got the Elise! We currently live in Flat Rock, NC (south of Hendersonville / Asheville), and are in Durham for a few months while my wife gets some medical treatment (all went well! We'll be going home in a month!).

We passed Lotus of Durham every single day while going to treatment. It was only a matter of time! I have actually been considering buying a Lotus for over a year - even visited Lotus of Atlanta last year, but they only had a couple of grey Elises - they were beautiful - but just not my color.

Here's a funny story - I had already decided I wanted the orange one I had seen parked there day after day. So we decided to go in and buy it. Last Saturday, we were driving towards the dealership (a 3 mile drive from where we're staying)... And suddenly, I saw a Lotus driving the other way - an orange one! (Note: the first time I had ever seen a Lotus on the road in my life!!!) My Lotus was driving away from me just before I bought it!

So I turned around and went back home. Got to be somebody test driving it or something. Or maybe they're taking it to a car show. Or something. Regrouped for an hour. Went back - and it was there!

In fact, it had never left! As irony would have it, another Lotus driver had just been leaving the dealership with his orange Lotus just as we had been driving towards the dealership! What are the chances of seeing an orange Lotus on 3 miles of road while going to buy an orange Lotus?

Anyway, finally bought my Elise!!!!!!!!!

Specs:
2006
Orange
Sport Pack
Touring Pack
Hard Top
Soft Top
Exige Rims and Wheels - lucked out on this! Black rims! Sticky tires!
13 miles

I was told there's something Lotus is doing with 2006 Elise buyers - a trip to Las Vegas to learn how to drive - anybody know anything about this? Any rumors about when / how it works / how long / etc?

Anyway, will take/post pictures soon - I've been working too much to do anything fun lately (I work online, about 80 hours per week, most of that time on weekdays)!

If you think it handles well on the street, get thee to a track and prepare to have your mind blown all over again.

Congrats!

Good luck with the car, you're in good hands here.

Congrats and welcome to the gang. Don't call it orange, it's chrome orange . Another lotus orange was Colorado Orange (elans) and Lava orange (S1 Elise.)

Correction noted - thanks! Wasn't sure if it was still "Chrome Orange" if I didn't have chrome wheels - my vehicular nomenclature skills are far from legendary!

The chances are pretty good actually, that was probably my father. He lives like 10 mins from the dealership, so hes by there all the time. There are a couple others in town too - a yellow one in our neighborhood, and seen a couple others.

Welcome to the family.

Congrats......I bought my used 05 at Lotus of Durham in May. They are good people, and they had the car in perfect shape for delivery. I've had no issues.
