Lotus vs SLK 350

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
I know, I know... totally different animals. Ive been looking at the SLK for a few days now, first caught my eye because it looks like a baby SLR Has anyone here driven/own one? if so, how is it? I somehow get a feeling it is gonna be a lot like driving my GTI 1.8T
A:
I test drove one a while back... it was an auto. I didn't care too much for all the crazy buttons inside the inetrior. Was very comfy, though, I thought.
A:
too bad the amg model only comes in auto.
A:
Probably get the stick version if you buy it overseas.
A:
FACT: more than 1/2 of SLK buyers are women. No joke. However, if you were even looking at the SLK, the elise is not for you.
A:
I really liked the idea of the Mk2 SLK, but when I went to test drive one...what a letdown. Probably didn't help that I drove it back-to-back after an M3, but a few pros/cons:

Pros: Really comfortable, nice features (like that airscarf gizmo), outstanding 7-speed transmission, trick convertible roof.

Cons: Price, doesn't feel terribly quick or that it handles well (although magazine numbers say otherwise), confusing interior, sterile driving experience in a luxury car, no problem. A sterile driving experience in a roadster, problem.
A:
It's SUPER comfortable...like you are programmed to expect a small 2 seater to feel well, like your Elise lol. But you sink in, the leather is soft, there's some space, very luxurious actually - I was pretty impressed for what it is. There is definately a market for it. It's just probably a little too heavy for most people here.
A:
We looked at one before the Exige. I like the car even the 350 but I would only consider the SLK55. Now they have this SLK55 Black Series with a non-folding carbon roof . . . 123K A bit out of my price range.
A:
The car is great... not an elise, but it's not supposed to be. I've seen good drivers in SLK350s keep up with mediocre lotus drivers on track (better than novice but not quite top notch).
A:
I had an SLK 32 AMG for almost two years. The car was awesome. I wish I still had it or the new one. th tiptronics shifting was a joy and was paired nicely with great handling and power.

Would I trade my Elise for it? Nope. Not now, not later. Completely different experiences. Which one was faster in the canyons? I don't know. I do knowtha the Elise was more fun in the twisties.
A:
SLK55 AMG was one of the nicest looking cars at the Portland Autoshow the last 2 years in a row! It was black.
A:
There is an AMG black edition in Europe. It has a carbon fiber non retracting hard top, manually double adjustable coil overs, front ceramic discs, cloth racing seats, carbon door and interion panels, and 394hp. It is still like 3300 pounds but a neat car as far as automatics go.
A:
Im not saying that I would buy it over the Elise, I just wanted to hear your opinions onthe car. Is it a fun drive?

Abba-solutely.
A:
I thought the SLK was what formed the basis for this checklist.
A:
I happen to have both the slk 350 and the elise in my garage. Totally different cars as has been mentioned. The slk is great for cruising. Comfortable and rock solid. A great car if luxury is a major deciding factor with the sport emphasis falling a distant second. All depends on your expectation level in the sport department of course. But overall I feel it handles very well, turn in is good, with plenty of grip. And as far as the "girl car" comment. Not to sway you, or that it matters. But the slk350 is my girlfriends.

IIRC, there is no stick version of the AMG SLK. For some reason, they don't like putting sticks in models with that much torque.
