A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Hi all,
I was asked to do an interview for an hour show titled "Dream Cars". They have already interviewed the dealership and were looking for an owner perspective.
At first I thought it was for an article in paper, she saw my hesitance and asked if it was a problem. I am not shy or worried about the camera I just thought about the hassle.
I thought why not since its about the Elise, I am pretty sure I am wrong but I could swear she said it might be a 10 min segment needing an hour to film (I expected 5 to 30 seconds).
So this is where I need help, any suggestions would be appreciated.
I want to get some interesting and accurate facts, just now I read that Liz is Elizabeth in French and Italian.
I know it is all out there but if you guys can help with links (Thanks in advance)
I would like history, interesting Lotus facts, production numbers (US an Canada) I am in Vancouver BC but I will be focusing on the US presence mostly.
I will also like to include modded cars and interesting videos.
If there is anyone interested to share videos it would be appreciated, I know there is a lot of talent here and I am anxious to mention ET and how there is a community around the aura of Elise. We do not have the numbers in Canada but I feel a kindred spirit as I stare out of my Igloo dreaming of lands where you could drive Elise 12 months of the year.

I met 3 Elise owners from BC at a track day in June, down here in Portland. I have track video if interested...PM me.

Cool.
Mention the vision of the car, how it was designed by Lotus to be a pure sports car with a very light (sub 2000 pounds) weight. How weight is the enemy of performance, and also gas mileage. Lower weight also means less wear on tires and brakes.
The chassis is an extruded and bonded aluminum tub that weighs only 155 pounds and provides exceptional rigidity.
The cars are built in a small factory in England for the North American market, where they anticipated selling 2500 cars per year.

Not sure what that has to do woth the Lotus "Elise"...
There is an Elise book out there which probably has some good things for you. Your local bookstores might have it. Also look for books about Lotus in general.
Good luck with the segment and do us all proud .

Purchase "Elise - Rebirth of the True Lotus by Alastair Clements 2003 published by Haynes NOrth America. Available on Amazon and other places.
There is a video disc you can get from your dealership that explains some historyand manufacturing.
You can also google the marque

funny, I just read a little of that book today and just the part about the name "Elise". It was who ever was president of Lotus at the times grand-daughter. Sorry I was just killing time and didn't know I'd be quized.

The then chairman of Lotus - Romano Artioli - requested the name "Elise" after his grand-daughter Elisa. It is a hard thing to find a name for a car and as tradition requires Lotus car names to start with an "E" Elise fits very well!
A:
At the elise intro in uk in mid 90s. Artiolis grand daughter was there sitting in the car, she was a little girl then, suppose she's in her late teens now.

Take the interviewer with you on a ride. Then, you won't have to worry about talking, and the interviewer will (might) better understand.
A:
Wear makeup! When they get you ready for the interview, allow them to apply makeup. This is important. Otherwise you will look terrible if it is an indoor setting. Filmed outside we look ok without makeup, but indoor lighting for TV will wash you out.
A:
You have to use the words ingress, egress, boot, and bonnet at some point.

If you are running out of things to say, do a demonstration of how to get in and out with the top on

Don't let them mention HP alone without referencing HP/lbs or HP/kg.

Yes - as has been pointed out by others, people named Elise tend to consider it an insult to be called "Liz". Just because a name may be "equivalent" so some other name in another language, doesn't make it the same thing.
Along with mentioning boot and other English words, don't forget that the removable cloth thing above the driver's head is a "hood".
Definitely make sure that the association between power to weight is made - 190 HP isn't a lot, unless it's in a sub-2000 pound car.
Stress light weight and innovative technology. And don't forget - the car is extremely crash worthy, and even comes with a four point roll bar hidden in the body work.
Lotus makes the best handling cars in the world - other companies hire Lotus to consult on how to improve their products.

Also, talk to yourself in front of a mirror or use a home camera to film yourself. It's amazing how much you learn about your body language in an interview when viewed in a detached manner.

Don't wear a herringbone pattern jacket or a too-busy pattern of a tie. Don't wear red. If it's inside, ask if there will be any chroma key...and if so, what color is it...normally blue or green. Whichever color it is, don't wear that either.

Since i bought one, i think the most surprising thing is how helpful other owners are... the community the car generates in forums like this one.

Also.....answer questions in complete sentences....if they ask a 45 second question and you say 'Yes'....you'll be killing 'em.....also, don't get your haircut the day before you appear.
