Yearly Mileage on your Elise?

A&Q about Lotus

Q:
Hi,

Just wondering what is your yearly milage on the Elise?

I met someone recently who told me not to buy and Elise if I plan on driving more than 10K mile per year.

Is it able to handle 20K+ per year on the road?
A:
It is a Toyota drivetrain (motor and transmission) so I would think it can handle as many miles as you want to drive it.......I bought mine to drive it and have already put a little over 3k miles on in about a month and a half. Life's too short so I plan to live every day like it's my last, and that includes driving the Elise every opportunity I get

I'm curious...what reason(s) did they give?
A:
The car can handle it, no problem. Just consider that there will be some extra expense with the Elise over your average daily driver. The ones that come to mind are that you'll probably go through at least 2 set of tires (more if you run A048's) and insurance increases as the yearly mileage increases (assuming you're honest with them). Fuel costs are probably a wash considering Elise gets great mpg (really great if you're a boring driver), but you need premium fuel.

I was looking at buying a 03 Elise of this guy and he just asked if I would be doing more than 10K per year.

I don'nt need the space. Yet I want the car as an every day car. I will be doing 20K + per year.

What you think?

Alot of Elise owners seem to be track or weekend drivers.

Whoa...03? You're in the UK I guess? You'd be better asking about the Rover engine & drivetrain over at SELOC. Few people in the US have experience with them.

A:
If you're in the UK, yes the Rover engine can handle it, but if you put too many miles on a UK Elise, the value drops by a huge amount, around £1000-£1500 per 10,000 miles.

People in the UK will only buy very low mileage Lotus's for some reason, its a real pain, every time I go out for a drive, I'm looking at the mileage and worrying!
A:
As of today, average is 4374.6 miles per year
A:
Cars are made to be driven and used.

Anyone telling you otherwise might be poor.
A:
As of right now, I am on track to average 26000 miles a year! I have owned the car for 5 months and put just over 11k on it. I need to slow down.

Am in Dublin, Ireland.

Anyway the car was bogus. Clock said 9K miles but Service history said near 30K. Something not right.

Looking at an 04 111R right now which has the Toyota engine.

My ardent baby was delivered March 25, 2005 and have 19,008 miles today - 18 months at 1,056 miles/month. So far I only had scheduled inspections, 3 oil changes, 1 set of tires, still have about 30% left on brake pads, and no other issues or problems except my driver's side window rattles lately when it's down. I still grin every time I drive it and no one here around Cincinnati is used to seeing it - still a LOT of attention.
A:
4500 miles in the first month I owned it. Just go and drive it, life is too short.
A:
About 14K per year for me.
A:
I've owned mine for 8 months now. Just hit 2900 miles. Yeah I know, I'm not driving enough!
A:
1 year, 7000 miles
A:
22 months, 26000 miles.

I drive the Lotus about half the time and the Miata the other half.

+1

But now that it's cooling down... time to hit the AZ highways
A:
I would say about 10K per year on mine (Asuming 200 milles a week)
