A&Q about Lotus
Q:
I removed my heater and A/C unit today. A good 25 to 30 lbs
I am trying to work out a vent that feeds the defroster/heater from the top of the radiator for warm air(ala Beetle). I got to thinking about how close the radiator is to the heater core and "voila" no more heater core. The car just lost another chunk of weight. I think I may run a splitter for increased front downforce since I have lost more weight in the front than in the back. The roll cage will offset but it is a bit further back.
I also removed my wiper arm, motor and mount(4-5lbs).
I am really thinking of doing the whole Roadster thing with two cowls like the new Ariel has... Don the helmets!!

It is kinda like watching the Karen Carpenter story.

Hey Perry, beat this!
A:
You are going to end up with a cross between a Lotus Seven and an Atom.
A:
SEREBO 1,
I got you beat already. You have a heater, a windshield wiper motor, and brake rotors!
My doors are gutted but the bodywork is still hung on the impact beams.
A:
BUZ,
EXACTLY!!!

The old Beetles only produced heat in the summer.

I have gloves and a nice leather jacket. What the hell, you just talked me into removing the windshield. It won't fog up if it doesn't exist.....

No windshield will increase drag, the wind will directly hit the back window. Of course with the way you are going you could remove that too.
I discovered that having the top off increased drag and decreased gas mileage. The car is pretty aerodynamic with windshield, top and windows up.

Perry is present hero!
We were also born on the same date.
What are the odds?

Just toss on a helmet and you're ready to go!
A:
How light is "too light"?
Surely there has to be a point where the car's weight isn't enough to sustain safe stability at high speeds.
A:
The windshield washer reservoir is full in that picture! There must be a few easy ounces to lose there.

I actually want you to weigh that just the way it is...
I'm a sick boy.
A:
I've removed that useless, overweight chassis/tub. I just strung up a couple of nylon straps to support the seats.
xtn

How heavy is the rear window glass? How much weight could be saved by replacing it with Lexan?
A:
Why not sell the Lotus and buy an atom or does that make too much sense?
