A&Q about Lotus
Q:
Whoa this guy sucks at driving! Nice roads though.

Looks cool and all, but I'd rather be out driving the real thing than pretending with a video game.
A:
Wow GT HD looks awesome. Looks like a replay though, no display of tach, speedo, etc.

Driving the real road that leads to Kleine Scheidegg in Switzerland?
Seriously though it seems this game will be a let down for people like me who are loyals GT fans but wish they'd put in some AI and damage that have been majorly lacking since the first game.

Looks fantastic. Watching him all over the road made me think of the Lane Nazi's of the Dragon flashing those pictures.
A:
wow, looks damn good..

Big +1
It pisses me off when you're on the inside line and the computer just turns in to do a PIT manuver on you
Damage would be awesome as well... when I'm losing I just use the "ram and slam" technique. I wait till the longest straight and keep it floored the whole straight (with nitrous if so equipped). At the end of the straight you just slam into the back of the car in front of you to bring you down to sane speeds (while throwing them off into the gravel). Works everytime. It's also incredibly satisfying to do that to the computer that just hit you earlier
Graphics look really cool though... except I'm not a fan of the seemingly total lack of revised sound I don't know about you guys but my Elise sure as hell doesn't sound like that.

Question: is the new Gran Turismo available when PS3 is out later this week? Did they go with that stupid downloading model of payment?
I haven't been paying attention to it. HD Gran Turismo would be nice while the Elise is hibernating for the winter.

Don't forget in the meantime you can put GT4 into 1080i to make it look nicer.

Wow! Looks like I am getting a PS3 sooner than I thought, it GT5 available now, or will we have to wait for 6 more months? I am hooked on GTR2 on my PC right now, the physics and car handling are unbelievable but the graphics can't touch GT5.

Agreed, and why can't they hire a decent music composer for the menu music and more importantly a sound recordist to get better engine sounds? Pathetic. Still a big fan of the series though.

I was at Best Buy today at lunch and there were people camped out in the front of the store. They've been there since yesterday and it doesn't come out till Friday 8am.

The liscense with several of the car manufactures state that the cars aren't allowed to be damaged.

Screw it - ditch those cars and use those that will allow it. Look at the car list for Forza for instance, and that has damage:

PS3 only has HD signal (meaning greater than 480p) coming out of HDMI right? So if you have a 1080i TV with ONLY component in your screwed? No way to convert the ps3 high def signal thru a component cable so that it can be plugged into a tv and displayed in 1080i?

Should be ok. I do that with my PS2. I use something like this to get 16:9 1080i output with Gran Turismo 4
*edit* that cable is actually listed for PS3

I haven't looked at the specs but your saying that component cable is available with the ps3 which is good news, so now I have to ask - are they sending a 1080i signal through that component cable or only 480p? Thanks.

Yeah you should get 1080i over component for games (from what I have read), but Blu-Ray movies have to be over HDMI to get 1080p. I think most TVs won't be able to do 1080p over component.

ok, thanks for the info about 1080i game signal over component, that's nice to hear.
I heard also that blue -ray HD signal 1080p will only go out the HDMI cable.
I wonder if blu-ray will last or will hd-dvd become the dominating format. Blu-ray may become another Sony Betamax format from what I read.

If i had the time I'd take that video clip, and put some real sound on it. I bet it would look a whole lot more realistic. I could just pick whichever exhaust soundclips I want from this site, and do some Post Production to it. It would rock. Alas no time at the moment. I do audio for a living, so i'm sure I could do quite a good job at it.
Agreed though, I'm very disappointed at the sound.
Cheers,
Skottman
