A&Q about Lotus
Q:
I thought I'd share this for anyone else who might be considering having a go at losing some weight. I have had a weight loss goal before a vacation I have planned (I leave this coming thursday), and today I finally reached my goal!
I'm a 21 year old 6'0 male who used to weight 240 lbs, and I just broke the scale today at 199, all that in only 3 months!
My goal will be to lose another 20-30 lbs, depending on how my body looks, I don't want to lose too much, I have wide shoulders and it just would look weird
How did I do it? ... a diet that doesn't kill me, and exercise
I started doing jump rope, and built myself up more and more. I used to be finished in about 15 minutes, now I can go almost an hour if I want to torture myself, but frankly I'm too lazy for that. Yes... I'm too lazy for that, and I lost all this weight... how? You got me
My diet? Atkins? Some other plan? Honestly I had no plan whatsoever
I still eat steak, hamburgers, fried chicken, etc. I love pasta and loads of bread, heck I had donuts for breakfast yesterday
I just pay more attention to calories, but if I really wanted something I still ate it, just to the point where I wasn't stuffed, but full enough to not complain. (Nothing wrong with left-overs folks)
At my height/weight/age my body burns over 3000 calories a day, and they say 1 pound is 3500 calories. Just avoid high calorie things (chocolate milkshake at dairy queen, 1000 calories? omg...), but you don't have to be all psycho about it. If you can eat just 1000 calories a day less, you could lose 2 lbs a week, and honestly eating 1000 calories a day less isn't all that hard to do
Breakfast is usually an apple, maybe an orange, or some grapes... I like campbells soup too, chicken noodle is only about 150 calories. Lunch is usually a granolla bar or some small snack, though I still go out to lunch sometimes. Dinner is when I have my meats, chicken is best but there's nothing wrong with the occasional BBQ ribs/steak/pork
Honestly, eat enough so you arn't hungry, you don't need to be full to be comfortable, and you also don't need to starve yourself. If your stomach is empty, eat a small snack, and hold off until dinner. Oh and no more late-night snacks, if you're really hungry then keep it light
As far as the exercise goes, I didn't care about muscle gain, I just wanted to burn calories, and jump rope is a great way to go, even better than jogging forever... I can burn in 15 minutes with a jump rope, what would take me an hour walking/jogging around... and I don't kill myself doing it either, sure I'll need a shower after, but I'm not bent over holding my sides in pain either.
I'm no doctor, and I don't reccomend over-doing either the diet or the exercise. Honestly if you are on a diet that is really strict, I can understand the people who say screw it and blow it off. Don't be too hard on yourself, you can still go out to eat 2-3 times a week if you want, just don't stuff yourself full, and keep in the back of your mind calorie intake. You can still have BBQ ribs, but do you really need a chocolate cake for dessert? Sometimes you just gatta say yes, but other times you need to say... I'll feel better if I don't
Try not to get discouraged, the initial weight lost is the fastest (my first 20 lbs were the most easy). Don't weigh yourself every day, I've seen myself gain and lose as much as 5 lbs in a day or two. Exercising before you eat a meal is best, but I usually only exercise once a day for 15-30 minutes. Just stop eatting so much, I know the feeling, I like having my cake and eatting it too, but maybe now only once a week. Don't starve yourself, but don't eat to fill yourself up either. You can always put your fork down and finish it later!
Anyway, if anyone has any questions feel free to PM me, I hope those of you who are also trying to lose weight are doing well, don't give up! I'm glad I could share this with you guys, 40 lbs in 3 months? That's just crazy... I honestly didn't think it would be so easy, I put off trying to diet and exercise for so long, but when I finally went ahead and did it, I found out it really isn't so bad... Some of you may have a harder time than me, I am after all 21 years old, but even if I was 40, if I could lose this much weight in 3 months at my age, figure what... 20 lbs if I were older? 20 lbs still seems like a good number to me
Good luck to you! And don't be too hard on yourself, just keep it up!

Nice work, Wasabi! Your diet plan sounds very similar to Weight Watchers - in which they allow you to eat anything you want, but in limited quantities, based upon a point scale (which takes calories into account, among other things).

Great job of adding lightness to yourself!

Wasabi,
Great job losing 40 lbs in 3 months! The question is when you write about having normal foods but in smaller proportions, I find it hard that just fruit and a granola bar all day would be enough to sustain me until the dinner time.
I'm also trying to lose weight so I look for any ideas that will get me to the goal of losing 25 lbs overall. So far I've shed 10 lbs in the last 6 weeks with a slight change in diet but a lot of walking (5-6 miles per day, 5 days a week).

Great Job,
I am 6-2, at one point I hit 230+. Now I am at 165, and I race mountain bikes at a semi-pro level, 9th in the country last year.
Remember, it is not a diet, you must change your lifestyle, keep up the great work, your life will change in so many positive ways.
I believe: everything in moderation, eliminate fat best you can and do your best to understand how many calories you need each day and for each activity. My wife and I almost always share one entree at restaurnt and we cook at home a lot.
Good luck,
Buy a really nice bicycle too!
