It really does look good, but I'm not spending $600 on a video game system. I'm going to get the Wii just because it's cheaper and I like the motion video games. Maybe I'll get the ps3 once prices drop some.
Granted 600 is an insane amount to pay for a game system, but also remember that it will be a blu-ray DVD player as well, and currently those players alone are costing around $800 I believe. Prices will come down like any product, but 600 (you could even get a PS3 for 500 I believe without all the bells and whistles) for both the most powerful next-gen console system AND a blu-ray DVD player isn't such a bad thing if you think about it.

Actually the price ha already been corrected for the US market by Sony... 20g version is now only $415.00 and will be cheaper then the Xbox360 with external HDdvd player

The still shot looks great of course, but if even if they're rendering that real-time the near-track scenery such as trees and specatators could probably still look like cardboard when it's in motion as it did in both GT3 and GT4. When they first demoed the HD version back in May it was just a high-res rendering of GT4 with pretty much the same limited geometry, though granted that version was done on extremely short notice. They've presumably been working on the models and textures (the car certainly looks great). The only recent footage I've seen was a low-res cam copy with lots of pixelation. Bear in mind this is not really a new game, but more a rework of GT4.
Also: the rumor out of Japan this week (and this is still just rumor) is that Sony may attempt to deploy a micro-purchase version of the game where it comes with pretty much nothing and then you pay real money to get the cars and tracks you want.

Does anyone here have the Xbox 360? Is the PS3 Gonna be a lot better than that?

Okay! Okay, so they're not from Gran Turismo for PS3... but same idea heheheh. (These were shot in Chicago BTW). I still want to get a PS3 even with the insane price tag.... winter in Chicago = Video Game season!

I also can't wait for PS3 and GT5. I'm going to get a 50" HD TV and full surround sound system. I already have a virtual cockpit with the Logitech Driving Force Pro I used to play with GT4. Does anyone know when GT5 will be out? Any mention of a new steering wheel system for the new game?

600 dollars for built-in HD+ wireless card + blu-ray is not that bad. Considering that 360 premium + HD-DVD costs about the same or more I don't think the hi-end PS3 model is a rip off. And no I'm not a Sony fanboy so those MS fanboys can save their trouble and not flame me
I'd pre-order one right now if it wasn't for the fact that none of the chain-stores allows you to do that here in Vancouver
FWIW I don't think the pics in the first post are CG. If that were the case the grasses on either side of the road would not look like textures patched together(which they are) and trees would not look uncannily fake. Especially telling are those spectators that look somewhat low-res. If it was CG I doubt Polyphony would do this...

after seeing the E3 presentation last year, I pretty much knew it was going to be expensive. I expected to pay at least $500, so I don't mind $600.

Btw: Best racing wheel for the game will be:
Edit:
Okay, THATS even better:

The Logitech G25 Racing Wheel looks like our MOMO steering wheel. Wonder if it will be compatible with the upcoming GT5 or Logitech will have a different version when GT5 comes out. Can't wait.

Congrats on the Aubergine car. You're one of few who dropped in with that colour. Nice pictures, too!

I was waivering to buy the PS3 and GT5 until I saw some screen shots. Now I did and I was really excited. Then I read this:
"1up reports on a Famitsu article discussing the future of microtransactions for PS3. According to the article, Gran Tourismo HD will require all cars to be bought via microtransactions. More specifically, the 'classic' package will come with no cars or tracks and the 'premium' package will include 30 cars and a measly 2 tracks to race on. Additional cars cost between 50 and 100 yen ($0.43-$0.85) and tracks go for 200-500 yen ($1.71-$4.26) a piece. No pricing was given for the game itself." From the article: "Now, is it possible that the game will be a full-priced title with a built-in download system that allows users to download cars and tracks equal to the number of the game's retail price? We hope the model ends up similar to this. However, right now, details are extremely sparse, and Sony has to have an answer to these questions -- most of the people who can answer are over in Tokyo, we'll update if we hear back. Welcome to next-gen."
