A&Q about Lotus
Q:
I wonder if anyone can give me an answer to my problem. I received only one key fob and key when my Elise was delivered. Obviously you should have a spare. What should I do to solve the problem? Buying a new set of two keys and fobs from the dealer was quoted at $290. Could I buy any Cobra fob and reprogram it to match my current one? I was thinking that a breaker might have a fob that I could purchase from a wreck. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Talk to the dealer and ask for the second one. It may have been overlooked and may very well still be on a key hook or in somebody's desk at the dealership.

Yes, a Cobra fob from another car can be "re-programmed" to work with your car - actually, I believe that it's more like your alarm is programmed to recognizes your new fob.
I've also seen them on the UK Ebay site for a reasonable price. You can even buy new ones from various web sites in the UK - but as far as I know the Elise is the only thing that uses them in the US.
And, as pointed out in the post above, the dealer should have provided you two of them. I'd go back and get them to provide the second one.

Thank you TimMullen for the information. I will try the UK sites mentioned. Yes I should have gotten a second one, but it was lost (?) along with my owner's manual and tool kit. I hope they went to a good home.

that is not your fault, the dealer should replace those.
